Dhaka, Sept 29 (UNB) - BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia on Thursday said the government must quit by September next as people do not want to see them in power anymore.
The government will be given a goodbye before September next as people do not want to wait anymore, Khaleda said while addressing a function in the city.
The function was organised at the auditorium of Diploma Engineers Institute in the afternoon marking the joining of secretary general of Bangladesh Jatiya Party (Matin) Abu Naser Muhammad Rahmatullah along with some presidium members and hundreds of leaders and workers to BNP reposing their allegiance in the leadership of Khaleda Zia.
Addressing the function, Khaleda said there are scattered movements all around by various groups and organisations, including the National Committee to Protect Oil, Gas, Power, Ports and Mineral Resources, against the government on various issues.
The programmes we announced on September 27 from our rally are the programmes to oust the autocratic government and restore democracy, she told the function.
During the month-long progrmmes, Khaleda said, they would organise people through informing them about corruption, irregularities and other misdeeds of the party in power.
After these programmes, Khaleda said, they would get ready for the final game to topple the government.
The BNP chairperson called upon people all, including professionals, to join the programmes and make those a success.
Responding to Awami League leaders recent remarks, she said they were talking about holding the next general election under the party in power and reiterated, the next polls will definitely be held under a caretaker government.
Khaleda also strongly criticised the government for producing arrested Jamaat leaders with dandaberi (shackled) before court.
Chaired by Abu Naser Muhammad Rahmatullah, the function was addressed, among others, by BNP Standing Committee member Dr Khandoker Mosharraf Hossain, acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, ex-DU VC Prof Emaz Uddin Ahmed, JAGPA president Shafiul Alam Prodhan, Maruf Kamal Khan Sohel and poet Abdu Hye Shikder.
