Govt engaged in last minute bargaining to reduce price of Rafael fighter jets: Manohar Parrikar

I recall another such "bargaining" where the Indian jets had t remain in the sheds for an year because the manufacturer didnt supply spares due to low price paid and eventually the ull price had to be paid.
History repeating itself?

Thats the difference between negotiating an iron clad contract in the minutest details, and hastily agreeing to bargain prices.

The former might take time, but you don't get screwed over.

The seller always got plenty of tricks up their sleeves. They won't sell their jets at loss

$ 8 Biilion for 36 aircrafts, Offcourse it is not a loss for the French. IAF wants the Rafales at the same price, as they are being supplied to Armée de l'air.

Its an opportunity, by offering, lower price on individual aircrafts, they can secure a larger order, afterall a much larger order of 90 made in India aircrafts, has to be awarded by the end of this year.

It is a win win deal, French on the whole, make more money, and Indians get more bang for their buck.

Again bargaining..typical indian commerce..

Bargaining beats begging any day.

Not the Rafales, Dassault has agreed to keep the fleet of Rafales at 90% combat ready. Part of the agreement. This Govt is smarter than the last.

India wants to pay $7 Billion for the aircrafts, where as French were demanding $12 Billion.

Finally, after an year of negotiations, they have managed to bring down the price to $8.2 Billion.

And as the OP suggests, still last minute negotiations are going on to bring the price further down.

For the record the current price being mentioned is 7.25 billion $ for 36 Rafale and not 8.2 Billion $.

This clown is buying tomatoes from a street vendor , not military jets.

It is not free, you are selling yourselves for it. Hardly anything to be jealous about.
Nothing to be jealous about?
May be that's why India couldn't stop moaning about the deal. Indian press was full of articles about the deal. The matter was raised by Every Indian minister in front of US government. Indian jourbalists were specially planted in US state department daily breafing and relentlessly asked about the deal.
Millions were spent by India on pleasing US senators to get the deal cancelled. And all that for just 8 jets.

But no India never gets scared of jealous of Pakistani weapon deals.

You we're joking...... Right?

Thats really naive . You can call it "moaning" , "being scared" or whatever you like, we call it "protecting our interests " .Those f-16s were against india's interest whichever way you look at it and thats how every country works . China would protest against deals with taiwan , Israel would protest against deals with iran . In fact pakistan should be protesting against the rafale deal between india and france because its against your interests . Just because you guys dont do it doesnt mean we wont . Thats how international relations work . There is absolutely no place for emotions here. Just countries and their self interests .
