If Pak Suzuki was a man and I was sitting in front of him, I, absolutely, positively would have been rolling down on the floor laughing just enough to choke and die from it. But I want to be merciful, a kind human being and I would want the government to give Pak Suzuki just enough time to be able to develop and introduce new cars and then bring down the fistful of fury with the ban on production of 10 years old cars, something that we also want to see enforced otherwise, we’ll keep on buying the Mehran in 2030.

The draft of the upcoming auto policy gave a new much appreciated, probably people’s award winning clause which proposes a ban on manufacturing of more than 10-year old models. Which means: Mehran, Cultus, Bolan, Carry and everything falls under the hammer.

Pakistan has to sacrifice innovation, R&D, Design, engineering and so much more by letting these old models continue. If government actually man’s up and sees this rule through, what would an automaker do next? Of course, decommission these models and begin working on its replacement thus, bringing some vital experience and technical skills.

There have been countless memes on Mehran, making fun of but when you don’t have a single car below the 1 million rupees range, what else would people buy? And Pak Suzuki believe Mehran still continue to flatter the customers.

Syed Nabeel Hashmi, ex-chairman of Pakistan Association of Auto Parts and Accessories Manufacturers (Paapam) however isn’t pleased with the auto policy draft shared by the Engineering Development Board (EDB) and says, “This flaw in the policy must be removed.”

But don’t get too happy to quickly, because Pakistan has been without an auto policy for 30 months and the new auto policy is expected to be approved within the next few weeks but we doubt that Pak Suzuki and the motorcycle assemblers (who are also producing the same Chinese two-wheeler with different stickers) would let this clause stick in the final draft of the auto policy.

Hope Govt. Implement this policy, so at least after 10 year Pak Suzuki will replace their relics. I have also heard rumors that 2 models (replacing Liana & Cultus) from Pak Suzuki and 1 from Indus motors (pending replacement of Core) may be introduced this year.

This is the main problem, if we had any economical vehicle to replace it with then we would have got rid of this "asaray kadeema" long ago and it would have become a part of our history.

Problem is Car mafia don't let other manufactures enter in the country, When Deewan motors launched Hyundai Club it was a big success and due to which Suzuki had to close its relic production of Khyber and had to brought Cultus to compete. Due to bad management Deewan motors failed and people lost a vendor and option to buy car.

you got problem with car model? India drove moris minor for 60 + years...
govt can only decide standards/norms not car models... :p:

I think instead of Liana they should have introduced SX-4 it looked better, Kizashi is in class of Honda Accord and there is not a big class who would like to buy it, if i m not wrong.

True Kizashi is in the Class of Honda Accord and Toyota Camry... They Should Introduce 1300 CC cars just like Corolla and City so that can give them a competition but all Suzuki got now is Swift no car so far yet ftom Suzuki to Compete against Civic or Grande.... Suzuki is gong down... Where as Toyota is introducing 2 new cars
Yaris and Vios

Toyota's Matrix and Yaris, Hyundai's Accent and Elantra, Ford's Fiesta and Focus, Mazda's 3 series, Volkswagen's Golf, Kia's Picanto and Fiat's 500 would be a nice upgrade over Mehran and Cultus. They really need to open the market.

What about bikes? :cray:

Yamaha is Opening a Plant this year

Many of you already know that Yamaha Motor Company is finally going to start its manufacturing facility in Karachi after facing many hurdles created by Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA) and Pakistan Association of Automotive Parts Accessories Manufacturers (PAAPAM). Previously, Dawood Group and Yamaha Motor Company was manufacturing and selling Yamaha bikes in Pakistan with the name of Dawood Yamaha Limited (DYL) but now Yamaha Motor Company will be solely operating the business in the country.

Yamaha YBR 125 in CBU Form

Yamaha had plans to launch its first bike in September this year but it got delayed due to unknown reasons, and now it is being said that Yamaha is going to introduce its first bike after the first quarter of next year, probably in the month of May. The bike will initially be imported as a CBU and later on will be localized just just like Pak Suzuki did with the Suzuki GS150.

The first that Yamaha will launch in Pakistan is Yamaha YBR 125. The bike will be powered by a single-cylinder four-stroke 125cc engine with a 5-speed gearbox. The bike will be available in 3 different variants. The top of the line model will feature all accessories like sports exhaust, disk brakes, headlight cowling, self-starter ignition and allow wheels with an estimated price tag of Rs. 150,000, while the base model will have a simple exhaust, drum brakes, simple headlight without cowling, kick-starter and spoke steel wheels and is expected to cost somewhere above the Rs. 100,000 mark. The mid-range model will have some accessories from the top of the line model on the base model and is expected to cost somewhere between Rs. 100,000 and 150,000.
