The government has launched the ‘Mother of Humanity’ award for social work to recognise the contributions of five individuals and institutions working to improve the lives of the marginalised, those left behind, the disadvantaged and the disabled.

A draft of the ‘Mother of Humanity Social Work Award Policy, 2018’ was approved at a cabinet meeting led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the Secretariat on Monday.

“The term Mother of Humanity refers to the prime minister,” Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam told the media. “It reflects her recognition as the Mother of Humanity on the international stage.”

The UK-based ‘Channel 4’ dubbed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina the ‘Mother of Humanity’ last year after she gave refuge to hundreds of thousands of Rohingyas fleeing persecution in Myanmar’s Rakhine State. Now the government is launching an award named after it.

According to the award guidelines, it is similar to the National Award. Five individuals or organisations will receive the awards on Jan 2, Social Welfare Day, said Alam.

WHO WILL RECEIVE THE AWARD?

An award may be presented for:

>>Contributions to the welfare and rehabilitation of elderly women, widows or those who face domestic violence

>>Contributions to the social protections, self-reliance and employment of marginalised and disadvantaged

>>Notable contributions to the welfare, improvement of quality of life, employment, inclusive education and social protection of people with disabilities and neuro-developmental disorders

>>Contributions to the welfare, betterment and rehabilitation of children who come in contact with the law, ex-convicts, vagabonds and the homeless

>>Any notable contribution by an individual or institution to the development of skill, thinking, quality of life or the environment, the improvement of physical or mental health on the social level and, above all, positive contributions to society and the state in terms of human welfare and humanity

Award recipients will be presented with an 18-carat 25gm gold medal, a replica of the award, a Tk 200,000 check and an honorary certificate.

The award will be equivalent to the national Shadhinata Padak and Ekushe Padak, he said.

Committees at the district-level and a cabinet committee led by the most senior minister will determine the recipients each year.

Asked whether the awards will be presented in 2018, Shafiul Alam said:

“I do not know if they have taken the necessary preparations. But I believe we will begin the process every July.”

This year @bluesky should be given the 'Mother of Humanity' award for his outstanding concerns for the betterment and prosperity of poor people of Bangladesh. His advocacy of Japanese model of development for poor Bangladeshi people should be a strong supporting argument for him becoming the 'Mother of Humanity-2018'

Thanks for the nomination, although it is sarcasm. Thing is I am not particularly interested in the welfare of poor. It is not possible to feed them free. However, it is the responsibility of the govt to keep on creating jobs through private companies, and Jobs can be created only when private companies build factories and businesses.

My pleasure. No, it was not sarcasm.

That's what I called outstanding. By the way, What you will do after winning 18-carat 25 gram gold medal and 2 lakh Taka check? Is there any plan to donate those for the betterment of humanity?

. . . .
Give it to Biman babu instead.
Biman Babu means @TopCat? He will spend this much of Award money in only two evenings. He loves liquids of different varieties including Russian V*dka. Anyway, he is now busy finding out new ways to destroy the newly bought fancy jets by BIMAN.

Bilal will spend it faster with his 300tk coffees.

Seriously speaking they can give it to Ershad or his wife for being such a good lapdog to Hasina.

.
I think Hasina herself deserves the Award, and in her stead, @UKBengali should receive it although he would like our garments workers to die of starvation with small wages.

Hey, are you looking for another ignore from me?

I already explained why garment workers cannot be paid much more than 8,000 Taka per month. Better they have a job that pays that than no job at all.

As BD economy continues it's upward trajectory, then not only will wages keep rising higher than inflation but these workers will be helped by more spending on health, education and social security.

These things take time and BD is in the right direction.

@UKBengali, why your self-esteem is low? How can I take the pain of being ignored by anybody? But, the economic theory of Hasina supported by you will certainly ruin Bangladesh. It will have no money to pay back the loan money.

By the way, have you ever pondered how BD will pay back the Russian loan of $12 billion with soooo high an interest rate?

Could you please give us some feedback on this issue to enrich our thoughts instead of avoiding it? This prestige project alone is enough to kill our garments daughters. A few prestige projects will not tie BD with development. It is a recipe of destruction in @UKBengali style. BD has to build its own physical infrastructures by mobilizing its own people.

So what is your solution? Not building Nuclear power plant at all? If no, do you think BD have much option to choose partner to build Nuclear power plant when only Russia and China are currently available for this job now in the world? China build copy of Russian technology. So it is clear that, going Russia was our only option if we wanted a guarranteed safe and secured Nuclear power plant with latest technology. When Russia established such a monopoly over this business, then why they will not maximize their profit? Specially, when we have no capability to pay 12 billion from our own pocket?

If we want to attach international significance with this award, then we better give it to Trump or Saudi Crown Prince. From PDF, Bekub ve Bakkol could be a wise choice as well.
