China is just one in many countries that sensors search content. Were google managed to successfully pressure China to relax censorship, they will be emboldened to demand similar terms from other countries, and set precedence that a commercial company can tell governments what to do.

This is dangerous and offers an opening for other companies to follow suit. Therefore China has to take a firm stand on this.
