They are not going to put sanctions...these are just words....this is the right move of Zardari and his govt........the main reason as US and NATO they are withdrawing from Afghanistan...they will want to spoil relations with Pakistan and its army.....

Second thing why do they have problem with Pakistan....India is getting oil from Iran, China and Turkey are getting Gas from Iran.....but when Pakistan is getting.....everybody is getting pain in his/her.....A**

It was bound to happen. We could have done this when the US was stuck in Afghanistan, but no. We only take these steps when the US has complete liberty to impose sanctions.

Makes me think about the timing of it all.

I don't think International community will go along with US sanctions like they have on Iran. US can't impose sanctions alone. Nor will major trading partners cease trade with Pakistan, excluding US.

US controls IMF.. Pakistan can not survive economically without IMF.. Do the math..

IMF alone isn't enough, IMF provides loan so they can restrict loans in the future which isn't in their interest because they're in the business of selling loans; I doubt many countries would go along with enacting the sanctions.

Pakistan is not even a fly on the wall in terms of the amount of loans IMF "sells" so restricting a few billion dollars worth of loans wont have any impact on IMF (and its not in the BUSINESS of loans). On the other hand, Pakistan's economy will not be able to absorb the restriction that easily.. Hence the leverage..

Actually Iran has a larger economy and is resource rich - far more inventive to trade in comparison to Pakistan. Not to mention the security situation is better.

Do you think Pakistan's large trading partner China is going to adhere to the sanctions on Pakistan? Others aren't going to adhere to the sanctions if they do it won't be very long, Pakistan at least diplomatically through China convey to others to to not enact the sanctions. We will see whose right after the oil pipe line goes through.

Pakistan is net importer from China, Pakistan export destined to Western countries.
