Global Times: China’s nuclear power must be boosted no matter where China-US ties head

China announced that it successfully conducted a land-based, mid-course antiballistic missile (ABM) technical test on Thursday within its border. I believe this test has come at a very timely manner. Brilliant!

Charles Richard, head of US Strategic Command, published an article on Tuesday saying the US has sought new ways to deter China and Russia, including the "real possibility" of a nuclear war. To put it simply, he wants the US to carry out nuclear blackmail against China and Russia, and to utilize the hype over a "nuclear war" to deter the two countries, especially to intimidate China.

I tend to take China's successful missile test as a strong response to the above-mentioned arrogant clamor of the US commander, although China has expressed in its statement that the test is not aimed at any country.

No matter where China-US relations head next, I believe that China's nuclear power and anti-missile technology need to be strengthened. The US will blackmail China with its nuclear power sooner or later. China must possess sufficient nuclear warheads, which must be more than 1,000, and sufficient methods to deliver and penetrate defense. If that happens, China will make its second-strike capability - the ability to respond to a nuclear attack with powerful nuclear retaliation - highly credible. External forces which are attempting to attack China will tremble with fear in the face of China. Only then will our national security be unbreakable. In this regard, the Chinese people should not be naïve.

yes, 10000 high-yield nuclear bombs would be nice and easily achievable. 😊

no one knows how many nukes china really has besides high level military members in the ccp. most likely thousands.

I would be surprised if China has more than 500.

does china mine its own uranium? if so they can secretly stockpile

Currently China's nuclear arsenal don't lack warheads, but lack sufficient deliver vehicles (to cover the US from China, China need super-ranged ICBM, not just cold-war level ICBMs).

That's why China's ICBMs carries much less payloads/warheads comparing to the ICBMs you see in US/Russia.

I think DF-5B and DF-41 remedy that problem.

Yes, the own uranium mine supplied all her military usage.

Don't be like an India. Secretly piling up warheads is meaningless.
As a country implementing nuclear deterrent policy, understating its own nuclear capability is stupid.

Not a good time. The policy now is to avoid over-stimulating the US and steer it smoothly down to number 2. Excessive military action can lead to unnecessary changes. We just need to upgrade with the US. Of course, there is nothing wrong with small Shouting to scare Americans.

Building and maintaining a huge nuclear stockpile is dumb. Essentially you are building weapons that you don’t plan on using and sink countless trillions maintaining them in the case you do have to use them. But when you do, you can’t win. No one can.

Even putting up the front of having a large nuclear stockpile is smarter than actually maintaining them.

.
But the number are insufficient.

China had 4-5 brigades of DF-41 since 2016, and each brigade contains 18 missile launchers.

And now it is 2021, and it is unlikely that the quantity of the DF-41 remains same as 5 years ago.

China won't join any treaty because it is not worthy to exchange your brand new sophisticated warheads for some Cold War relics.

Most China's deployed warheads are at least on par with the W88, whereas most US Cold War warheads that waiting to be disarmed are primitive relics from the early era of the Cold War.

Few years back American study got published about estimation of an optimum nuclear stockpile
The magic number
Which by there estimate turned out to be below 400 Nuke's distributed in a vide manner of delivery systems
Enough for both Russia and China
And also enough for second strike with redundancy for losses in enemy first strike

So in essence few hundred nukes are enough you need reliable delivery systems for em

When the 8 ton Chang 'e-5 can automatically dig the earth from the moon and return to the designated location on earth, imagine replacing the Chang 'e-5 with 400KG and 500 kiloton yield thermonuclear weapon.Staying in outer space, it can automatically aim at any point on earth.

There are channels of communication between the nuclear powers to avoid miscalculation. For the past year, China has been given advance notice of U.S. naval movements, and the two sides have controlled their actions to avoid a hot war.
