The rankings for the index are reached after judging the countries on 50 parameters, including military resources, natural resources, industry and geographical features and available manpower.

India leads China in terms of total armed personnel with India’s 4,207,250 personnel against China’s 3,712,500. China, however, leads in terms of active personnel with 2,260,000 troops compared to India’s 1,362,500. India’s reserve components were assessed to be 2,844,750 while China trailed with 1,452,500.

Meanwhile, China also crept up behind Russia and is poised to take the second place soon. It has more aircraft and naval ships than Russia but is hugely outnumbered in total tanks in service.

That site is crap, they don't use accurate figures and some of the rankings are just messed up (how the hell is Israel not in the top 10, and behind Indonesia?).

It's not just Israel, several countries have got some very strange rankings such as Greece, and the way they rank navies is a complete joke.

Their figures are also questionable.

7,679 officers and 20,185 Junior Commissioned Officers/Other Ranks in Army; 1,434 officers and 14,730 sailors in Navy; and 146 officers and 15,357 airmen in the Indian Air Force.

As per the information furnished in another report of the committee, in case of army officers, the sanctioned strength is 49,932 whereas the held strength is 42,253.

With regard to JCOs/ORs, the existing strength is 11,94,864 as against an authorised strength of 12,15,049.

In the Navy, against a sanctioned strength of 11,827 officers, the strength is 10,384. In case of naval personnel, the present strength is 57,310 against a sanctioned strength of 71,656 men.

In the IAF, the sanctioned strength of officers is 12,549 while the actual personnel figure is 12,340. In the case of airmen, the present sanctioned strength is 1,42,529 while the present strength is 1,27,510.

I used to trust that ranking but after this year's rankings, I can't hold it to be reliable. Is this some kind of joke that Pakistan is behind Egypt, Iran, Brazil and Indonesia or is our military really that bad now?
