Gylitch removed, supplementary orbit raising operation of Mangalyaan successful

Vanita Srivastava, Hindustan
Times New Delhi, November 12, 2013

The supplementary orbit raising manoeuver of the Mars Orbiter Mission spacecraft, to raise the apogee to about 1,00,000km was completed successfully on Tuesday morning at 5.03am.

The fourth supplementary orbit raising manoeuvre of the Mars Orbiter spacecraft started at 5.03am with a burn time of 303.8 seconds. The apogee was
successfully changed from 78,276km to 118,642km. The
velocity added was 124.9m/s.

"Everything is normal," said an Isro scientist.

The spacecraft had suffered a minor hurdle on Monday morning during its fourth orbit raising operations. There has to be one more orbit raising operation before it is finally moved out of the sphere of influence of earth on December 1.

After moving in the Trans Maritan Orbit for 300 days the spacecraft will reach the Mars orbit on September 24, 2014.

That's what they want the Indian public to hear. Wonder what's the real status of this mission.

Keep burning Man.

Even though we do not success, we do not mind. It will teach us a lot. Your country can not conceive such complex mission.

. . .
for me jugaad = an experiment without research. And most of the time it works.
They had around 4 kg of extra fuel left to do such maneuvers, what jugaad are you talking about. lolz.

. . .
Media should also exercise some restraint while reporting such news. Today a lot of newspapers painted this story as some sort of failure, without noticing the mission has otherwise gone is a copybook fashion till now, no mean feat for a country that is doing it for the first time. Its a good thing ISRO got the things moving on the track.
Guess nothing sells unless you put a sprinkling of sensationalism on it.

.
When this mission is accomplished, There will be a great savings of money in logistics and resource management. Battlefield will be managed in a highly professional manner like inventory is managed in a store site at a professionally run company.

.
This is a scientific experiment, not a jugaad.:smart:
I agree, but the way the mars mission is planned..since the rocket they had was very light, they had innovative way to send the satellite to mars by this elliptical orbit concept and so this is known as indian jugaad!!..I am not making fun of it..I am showing their innovation

.
If they manage to pull it off... ISRO would have their order books full of mars probe launches....

By the way ...its not an innovation.. its an innovative use of knowledge that all ready existed for decades.... wonder why NASA could not think of this.

since NASA has bigger rocket to send the satellite directly to mars and not the sling throw way

.
^^^^
Yes! NASA don't need to use such maneuvers as their budget is high and rockets are more powerful....
India on the other hand had to save fuel......and hence this 'sling throw'(Gravity-assist) approach to increase velocity.......this makes the project more fuel efficient as well as more complicated...
