Why Russia still commemorates it every year even today since based on your theory it was not a war for the country but a one for the communist party cause communist party owned the army back then.

Same reason we commemorate our participation in world war, even though they were sworn loyal to the crown. Because they are our people & we fought it . Ex- Soviet countries hate the ussr & Russia , even they celebrate their victory & sacrifices
