cases like this, the stringent and cruel laws of Iran/Saudi etc seem totally justifiable.

Raped in Mecca: Algerians seethe with anger

The alleged r.ape and murder of a young Franco-Algerian girl in Mecca has set Algerian public opinion ablaze. An investigation was opened on Thursday to determine the circumstances leading to the macabre death. Many are shocked to see such crimes occur in Islam’s holiest land. But this is not the first in a place where hapless victims of r -ape rather suffer the wrath of an archaic justice system.
The Saudi authorities Thursday opened an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the death of a young Franco-Algerian in Mecca. The 15 year old girl who had arrived from Marseilles, France, was found dead Wednesday on the roof of a building adjacent to where she resided.

According to some Saudi newspapers, she threw herself from the balcony of her hotel as she tried to escape an attempted r.ape. Conversely, the Algerian press says that the young girl was raped and killed.

Mecca police spokesman, commander Abdel Mohsen, quoted by the Saudi daily Al-Watan, said that "two illegal hotel employees of Arab nationality, were arrested and questioned". The newspaper, basing its arguments on testimonies collected among the hotel’s employee, said that the girl had a close relationship with one of the suspects.

Reportedly, the girl had asked permission from her father and left her room to join an older woman with whom she often dined. Forensic examination, according to several Saudi news sources, showed that the victim did not suffer r.ape. A statement most Algerians doubt.

Consul to the rescue

The case has aroused anger among Algerian pilgrims in Mecca. Some 300 of them gathered outside the hotel Wednesday to demand an investigation into the circumstances leading to the death of the girl.

And the Consul General of Algeria in Saudi Arabia, Salah Al-Atiya, had to rush to the scene to calm down the agitated crowd. Algerian newspapers on Thursday said that the girl had been raped and killed by Pakistani and Yemeni workers, who threw her corpse away.

The case, which has since Wednesday made headlines within the the Arab world, has sent public Algerian opinion into complete frenzy. "What shocked everyone is not the act but the place of the act! Imagine such an act occurring in the vicinity of the Vatican," writes an Algerian on one of the many forums devoted to the topic.

Saudi Arabia and sexual assault

Nonetheless, this is not the first time such an act has been committed in Islam’s holy land. It is not unusual to read about such crimes within and around Mecca in the Saudi press.

Late March 2010, five Burmese nationals were arrested for kidnapping and raping a young girl and her mother in the Kaâkia neighborhood.

In August 2009, two young Saudis abducted a 27 year old woman in a parking lot near the Grand Mosque, and raped her, before dumping her in the desert.

But in one of the most conservative countries in the world, sometimes there are far worse institutional attrocities than the infamous r.ape of a woman.. the punishment of traumatised victims of r.ape for horrible violations suffered on the hands of criminals.

In February 2009, a Saudi court sentenced a woman who had been gang raped to a one year prison sentence and 100 lashes. The young woman was punished for having accepted a lift from a man.

In November 2007, a 19 year-ols woman was sentenced to six months in prison and 200 lashes for talking about a gang r,ape she suffered in an interview with the Human Rights Watch organization.

Saudi Arabia, one of the largest producers of oil in the world is also among the most backward countries when it comes to respecting the rights of women.

A minor girl aged 14, who travelled with her father to Mecca for Umrah (minor pilgrimage), was raped yesterday morning before being killed by a Saudi who, according to some sources, belongs to a radical group.

Wait a minute, WHAT?

WHO RAPED WHO AND WHO KILLED WHO?

Posting pictures of Qabba or people offering prayers is completely irrelevant, just because this heinous act took place in Mecca doesn't mean that all the holy places or religious practices in that city should be stigmatized with crude efforts to establish an association.

Saudi questions suspects in teen pilgrims's death

The Algerian girl was found dead on the roof of a hotel

Four men are being questioned in Saudi Arabia in connection with the possible r.ape and murder of an Algerian teenage girl who was on pilgrimage in Mecca, press reports said on Thursday.

The authorities in the Muslim holy city are questioning "four expatriates from Yemen and Bangladesh in connection with the suspected r.ape and murder of a 15-year-old Algerian girl," the Saudi Gazette reported.

Her body was found early on Wednesday on the roof of a hotel neighbouring her own, the English-language daily said. Several Saudi papers reported that she threw herself from a balcony in her own hotel in an attempt to escape.

"Four hotel employees, from Yemen and Bangladesh, were arrested and are being questioned," Major Abdul Mohsin al-Maiman of Mecca police was quoted by several papers as saying.

The teenager, who lived in France, had come to Mecca with members of her family to perform the Umrah or minor pilgrimage, Maiman said.

Her French mother had come with her Algerian father and seven-year-old brother to Mecca from the southern French port city of Marseille.

A woman in tribal arabia is equivalent of cattle possesion. If any cattle animal crossed the borders and wandered into neighbouring tribe terriotry, they automatically had the right to posses the animal and do whatever they please with it. Same rules applied to woman by anoynomising female identity, forced face covering and enforcing a male chaperone. If a woman had no male guardian, it meant she has no identity, just a mere ghost being and no different than stray cattle. If she wandered into any alien tribe terriotry she would be possed and presented to tribemen / leaders and hence forth become their property. A woman travelling without male guardian could be forcefully possesed by any rival tribe and hence forth become their property.

Similarly if a woman flitered with any man, she was the culprit and resulting responsible for anything ensued.

Thirdly was the strong concept of masculanity attached with keeping a woman well tamed. Therefore all arab women were covered head to toe with face blinding veil which either barely exposed the eyes for vision or even covered them with a thin cloth transparent enough for vision. The most hardcore tribal enforced totally blindfolding veil on their women while travelling. I have still seen this practiced by some Saudis, Yemanis and Indians in Saudis Arabia.

After the spread of arabs with advent of Islam such ideals made way into mainstream islamic practices of Arabs and illetreate muslims at a wide pace and continue to do so.

It is hard to layout these pracitices in a rule by rule order. They are strongly intermigled with various factors developed over centuries.

Autopsy finds Algerian girl not raped
By BADEA ABU AL-NAJA | ARAB NEWS

MAKKAH: A post-mortem report issued by Saudi authorities on Sunday showed that the 14-year-old Algerian girl who died Tuesday after falling from a Makkah hotel was not raped.

"The girl was not exposed to any physical or criminal attack and was a virgin," the report said. The post-mortem, however, found remnants of food she had partaken with a Yemeni worker before her death.

The post-mortem result refutes reports carried by some local Arabic newspapers that the girl was gang raped before falling from the 16th floor of the hotel where she was staying — Dar Al-Muhajireen in the city's Gaza district — on to the roof of an adjacent building.

Arab News learned from high-level sources that the girl had established friendly relations with the Yemeni worker and had agreed to join him for dinner at the top floor of the hotel where a few guests lived.

The girl went up without informing her stepfather with whom she had come to the Kingdom to perform Umrah.

The stepfather then informed hotel authorities that his daughter was missing and a Yemeni worker went up to the top floor and found the two eating dinner together. The second Yemeni man then rebuked his compatriot and told him that the girl's father was looking for her.

The source added that the girl then tried to jump on to the terrace of an adjacent building but missed. She fell on her legs and sustained bruises to her legs and shoulders.

The stepfather has been following the case from the beginning and has not objected to the results of the investigation, said the source, adding that the stepfather said that the girl went up to meet the Yemeni worker of her own. "It was her mistake and she got her punishment," the source quoted the stepfather as saying.

Meanwhile, a number of pilgrims of different nationalities have expressed their disappointment at the protest carried out by some 300 Algerians soon after news of the girl's death became public. The Algerian pilgrims blocked a road and raised the Algerian flag.

"The Algerians' action frightened other Muslim worshipers in the city," they said, urging all pilgrims to follow the Kingdom's rules and regulations. Businesses close to the hotel said they had lost business as a result of the Algerians' actions.

The police had earlier interrogated the two Yemenis. Police spokesman Maj. Abdul Mohsen Al-Maiman said the two men were living in the Kingdom illegally.

Meanwhile, Al-Fajr, an Algerian newspaper, carried a report recently saying that the girl was not raped. The paper quoted the girl's stepfather as saying she did not commit suicide and that he was planning to travel with her brother, Muhammad, to France the next day, Wednesday. He said he found the body of the girl while searching for her. The paper also said that the stepfather had expressed confidence in the investigations that are being carried out by the Saudi authorities.

In a related development, a video clip entitled "Message from Martyr Sarah Al-Khateeb to Saudi newspapers" have been circulating for some time on YouTube. One of the clips contains a number of pictures of the girl with comments. One comment said she came to Makkah to perform Umrah and never expected that people would try to **** her at such a holy place and that when she refused they threw her from the top of the hotel.

The video also attacked Saudi newspapers for allegedly accusing her of having sexual relations with the Yemeni worker. It was not clear who posted the video.

If the girl was really raped and killed, then beheading is too easy and quick a way to die for the criminal. Let their sexual appendages be cut off and then sentence them to life in prison with no chances of parole in the worst prison that Saudi has.

But seeing how it is Saudi, I have an inkling that the girl will be blamed and somehow the accused will walk away with nothing more than a slap on the wrist or few lashes.
