Gillard's push for uranium sales to India

.
When the whole world was selling uranium to INDIA it was plain stupid on australia's part to deny them... better late then never :)

. .
Both defence minister and resource minister support the plan along with the Prime Minister.

i am here in Aus following the news all day and there is stiff resistance in the lower house of parliament and its strongly opposed bythe GREENS. still a way to go yet but i think it should be passed considering it will be a boost to the economy and esp the mining sector

.
It is a foreign policy victory more than anything else. Just take a look at Krishna beaming when asked about her comments on NDTV ....... Indian diplomacy at its best!

All this has to be seen in the context of recent lobbying by the US to create an US-India-Australia alliance against China.

Gillard just met with Obama at the G20 summit and Obama is due to visit Australia soon.

Why everyone is making big waves about Australia uranium sale to India.
Very recently i realized Australia even exist on world map. :)

Australia is the third largest exporter of uranium in the world.

Welcome to Earth.

.
So last of the resistance on uranium just vanishes in thin air..

No.

Julia supports it but doesn't mean her party does. It needs to go through multiple avenues before it is approved the first being the labor party conference.

Bunch of confused peoples in the authority.

They aren't confused. The political system in Australia isn't understood well by outsiders. The Prime Minister can't just change policy, she needs to run it past her party then parliament.

It's the left wing of the labor party stopping the uranium ban being over turned.

I think now Australia is way late in the race. If they want to sell uranium, i think they will have to come to a lower price than others to sell their stuff.

Nope. You don't understand the business world.

Australia currently has the largest and the cheapest supply of uranium, hence why India was campaigning for the ban to be over turned.

When the whole world was selling uranium to INDIA it was plain stupid on australia's part to deny them... better late then never :)

Wasn't stupid at all. The over turning of the ban hasn't been approved and may not be. The prime minister is just saying she supports it.

How is it a victory? IT hasn't be approved yet.

People need to read the news story very carefully.

The ban has not been overturned yet. The prime minister is just saying she supports it being overturned but it has to go through a few hoops before the ban is over turned.

Also The Prime Minister has said that any sale will have strict conditions that the uranium cannot be used for weapons which would satisfy a lot of people who were opposed to the sale.

Gillard does not speak for or represent all of Australia. That's just her personal opinion.

This is a report from Sydney Morning herald :READ IT !!!

ALP Left concedes defeat on uranium ban

and also:

Miners soar on India uranium move

West Australia Premier Barnett backs sale of uranium to India

South and Western Australia back uranium sales to India

We are not going to have any more strict regulations than we already have. Australia has to be content with it. When USA/Canada/France have no problems with our nuclear safety record and regulations then what special weed does Australia smokes that they have problem with our rules and regulations
