The annual soft power rankings by Monocle magazine and the Institute for Government
ranks 30 countries who "best attract favour from other nations through culture, sport, cuisine, design, diplomacy and beyond."

I think thats a very positive thing. Germany was voted the most popular nation worldwide seince several years now and i believe it is a good thing that we are able to create a positive imagie outside of germany. People love germany. That makes them buy our products and is good for our economy. On the other side i think, that our image varies trhough various regions. We are seen positive in western, northern and eastern europe, asia, lation america as well as the middle east. South European countries tend to see us more critical because we force them to reformation of their economies. But over all i´m happy with our image.

It's not only at the expense of the uncompetitive Southern EU neighbours but also at the expense of the ordinary German workers. German workers haven't seen much wage increase in the last 20 years. Germany's productivity has gained the most by suppressing the workers wages.

Well, we may not get to know much about domestic policies and situation of workers in Germany, but from outside, Germany is doing an spectacular job. German companies and industries beat their rivals in many fields.
I have always respected Germany for producing the best, be it in Nazi era or post war years.

You have to live in Germany in order to know the sentiment and what's been happening here. Our social welfare has been eroding, the rich-poor divide has been widening, the purchasing power has been decreasing. Germany's workers produce excellence without getting much benefit our of it.

You know, when I was a child I had nerver seen beggars or people collecting empty bottles out of the dustbins. In all these years, Germany has become much richer but we also have more poor people. There are millions of Germans with full employment but still need social welfare in order to make ends meet with. This is part of the hidden subsidy the German state pays to the industry (with my tax money).
