Germany to informally ban Huawei from 5G network

Own admission? When did that happen?
On a related note Pandora Mian, your knowledge on 5G is dated. The US (Verizon) and Japan (Rakuten) have already transitioned to Network Functions Virtualization (NPV) 5G

Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) is meant to replace traditional network equipment with an open architecture and flexible options (Figure 2). Such systems replace much of the switching and other hardware in core networks with cloud computing and advanced software, at much lower costs. From a security point of view, a significant advantage is its openness: the vendor does not control both hardware and software. On the contrary, a company adopting this technology has access to a broad, independent, and even open-source software community. Furthermore, as noted by RCRWireless News, encryption software can be launched within the network rather than on a hardware device. US vendors are competitive for both the servers and software for these systems.

I am well aware about stand alone utilization of 5G spectrum. My point was are we ready to totally replace 4g/LTE with 5g ? It has always been a practice to integrate previous generation with next gen equipment by making modifications to current infrastructure. The point i was trying to raise is that how sustainable and affordable is to completely switch to 5g for countries which opted for 4g/LTE based on Huawei systems. 4

For example our mobile phones can still transition between 2g 3g and 4g depending on availability. 4g will need to compensate 5g for medium term because high spectrums reduce range of transmission as well meaning more base stations are required compared to 4g network. In the near future we will still have our mobile phone device transitioning between different spectrums based on network coverage. Without an integrated system it wont be possible to achieve uninterrupted communication.

As for Virtual Networks it is not a new concept but it is lots of kinks including cyber security aspects that need to be solved prior to using such a method. Physical systems provide much better security compared to virtual systems. I did study the concept extensively but i have rarely seen it getting used in real life.

Chinese 5G is over hyped just like chinese military and products.

Interesting to know how china responds, the wolf warrior diplomacy and zero sum game diplomacy is in full swing I think.

It is not over hyped bcz it is infact the fastest 5g network in existence.

Huawei hits record 5G speed

It is not only fastest but also cheapest network. Your comment kind of reminds me of this

Verizon are already on NFV - most operators prefer NFV now since it is cheaper and gives operators complete control over their networks. NFV's are more secure because the network can dynamically respond to attacks by simply reconfiguring the network on the fly to isolate or de-amplify the threat. (watch this lecture)

Everything is software defined and with AI and ML embedded into the security architecture detection, isolation, de-amplication and neutralization can happen in real time.

Huawei hits record 5G speed

But Huawei today announced that it has achieved a 5G download speed milestone without using millimeter wave technology: 3.67 gigabits per second on a live 5G network in Zurich, Switzerland.

Nope Ericsson beat Huawei and then Nokia beat Ericsson

The Finnish company reached speeds of 4.7 Gbps at its Over-the-Air (OTA) network in Dallas,

Ok i have to admit i didn't know that thanks for the link. If that is the case Germany explicitly was after systems with higher speeds with more channel capacity so Huawei might get knocked out based on pure competition as well. I cant believe how fast technology is evolving and records are being broken one after the other.

Key word is "without using mmWave".
mmWave RAN can reach higher Tput but have issues like Line of Sight. Believe Huawei reached those speed at cmWave RAN. mmWave used 8CC for DL and 2CC for UL each at 100mhz plus 4G LTE spectrum too that helps them getting to 4.7Gbps.
Nokia recently announced they will support Open RAN which will change rules of the game since other vendors shying away because it opens there network to outside companies even startup.

If china wont spy on germany with 5 g USA will and once usa caught red handed by bugging merkel office one way or other germany has to choose out going USA or new comer power house china

4G LTE is not going away for next 10 years at least just like 3G is still fallback to 4G. Only vendor who is starting fresh like a Green Field can opt for SA Cloud based. 99% of existing vendors will not give up there 4G network since Billions are invested in them.

You think China is not spying on Germans? Or Pakistanis or Americans or Andalusians

So what has happen to FREE trade?
What if China were to ban German cars using the same excuse - threat to China National Security and similarly provide no evidences.
Be careful what they wish for, the sword cuts both way.
Example. US companies are already suffering and 3500 of them are taking a class action against Trump administration.
And immediately after the WTO has ruled that Trump's tariff is both illegal and against international law.
Will Trump obey WTO rules or as usual ignore it.
Now WTO shoukd seriously considered suspending USA or even strip it of its membership.
With a double digit contraction and excessive QE, USA reign as World No. 1 largest nominal GDP may be over faster than anticipated. :coffee:

Politically US has more of strangle hold on Germany that China. The fact is Huawei has promised that there is no backdoor. We all know how the US spied on German leaders, even trying to sanction Germany effort to get cheaper gas from Russia. If they want to pay more to spied on my US, then it is their decisions. Either way there is a whole world out there not Anglo-American or European.

i tend to believe what Edward Snowden revealed in his book.
NSA found it difficult to penetrate the Chinese Bamboo Wall.
So once these countries Installed Huawei 5G telecommunication equipment, USA spy agency like NSA may have a difficult task collecting data or spied on them.
That is why Cambridge Analytica or Strategic Communication Laboratory as it is named in USA cannot collect data on Chinese citizen or use psychometric to start a riot there like there did in Hong Kong.
It is an open secret that NSA was eavesdropping on German Chancellor and Aussia PM private conversation.
Heard of a spy program called PRISM used by NSA.
