New Delhi: Germany, a member of the Nuclear Suppliers Group, Monday said it was encouraged by signs that India could be willing to sign the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT) and sought closer cooperation with India in combating terrorism.

Non-proliferation and disarmament were among global issues that were discussed between External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna and his German counterpart Guido Westerwelle.

Germany claims India may sign CTBT

Germany is dreaming. There is no question and indication of India signing the CTBT or NPT. India will sign CTBT/NPT only after officially accepted by IAEA and NSG as nuclear weapon state. Why should we sign it??? As we can get everything without signing the deal. We got nukes but still have joint development and cooperation agreements on civil nuclear technology with most of the countries, we can buy/sell nuclear plants and technologies. We can do everything like a nuclear weapon state.

India is not going to get anything by signing then why would India sign at all?

No... not every thing...... we can not test nuclear weapon..........

As an official nuclear weapon state we can carry out nuclear test, though under different name as validating our tech. or ensuring sefty of our weapons.

Its very much important.:azn:

One thing is being a signatory nation, other is being ratification!

China, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Israel, and the United States - have signed but not ratified the Treaty......

No dude, who ever signed the CTBT cannot test nuke, this include the official nuclear weapon states.

But its true that many countries signed the CTBT, but not ratified it.

Not till it remains discriminatory.

Not until it remains discriminatory.

It will be remain discriminatory forever like many other international agencies/treaties/orgs etc . That also include so called nuclear weapon states, UNSC permanent members with veto power etc .

We just need to see that we are not on the other (wrong) side of the discrimination.

America does not follow it and wants others to sign.

anyway in the past too there were some analysts saying India may sign it but only on some under the table conditions where its interests wont be affected and at the same it will force Pakistan to sign it. I dont know how much it is true

Germany wants to have strategic partnership with India so comments like these are not so uncommon. This is their Internal Politics to allow startegic partnership with a NOn NPT member. CDU vs CSU vs SPD and Greens

This is trust building initiative. Though they know, that we are not going to sign it. But there is no harm in saying this. Finally they don't say similar about Pakistan, Iran or North Korea and Syria.

no everyone wants money lol

well, i do think we should stop nuke testing and start the denuclearization process. neither china nor pakistan would be crazy enough to mass nuke another country with 100 nukes. thats enough deterrence already.
