i think there may be amendment in law to allow retired general as army chief like it happens in u.s and whole sc hearing was staged by establishment to open door for this and this will be likely to happen in future,I not know whether it will work well in Pakistan as we have history of military rule unlike u.s

If there's a war like situation etc. which demand continuation of army setup than emergency should be declared.
If there's no war like situation and PM likes ex- CoAS to remain at top, than he better vacate his own seat or appoint him as adviser, just like Imran Khan has many of them.

We have seen in history, how much political lobbying is done to secure the top post. Case of general butt is an example.
