ISLAMABAD, Sept 9: Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Tariq Majeed said on Thursday he was not seeking extension and wanted to retire after completing his three-year term.
In a rare statement, he rejected a perception that he and many other generals were aspiring to get their tenure extended.
Gen Majid, who is scheduled to retire on Oct 8 this year, said: I have no desire for an extension and would very much like to retire on due date.
Gen Majeed was promoted to four-star general on Oct 8, 2007, and replaced General Ehsan-ul-Haq as CJCSC on the latters retirement.
While conveying disappointment on the incorrect speculative reporting, the personal staff of CJCSC also informed that General Tariq has asked for dispensing with farewell ceremonies and traditional dine outs by the service headquarters and strategic organizations to save on expenditures and divert the amount for the rehabilitation of flood affectees.
