The answer lies in strengthening ourselves. Iran is still standing okay without a nuke. When such decision are taken, all possible scenarios should be simulated, discussed and analysed. Hamid Karzai got installed because Pakistan was weak and we were lead a coward rat named Poop Musharraf. If Pakistan stood its ground, USA won't be able to bring about this change. All Pakistan needed was to take its friends and allies like China and Russia into confidence. But the got scared to death and let USA do whatever it wanted with not only Afghanistan but also Pakistan. Look at NK, it was stands tall and defiant with much smaller nuclear arsenal which is acquired recently.
The bold part is the key. And equally important is the strong leadership. But the buck stop at the top, the deep state. If they want to have a compromised leader who they can control from shadows, then we will be in this perpetual weakness despite having very strong armed forces. Does anyone believe that Nawaz Shareef got elected in 2013 elections? The "third person" in the infamous "35 puncture" audio doesn't left with much confidence that the deep state has shaken off this failed, tried and tested policy to have those characters at top who they can control because of their liabilities.
As for Iran, it is standing because there is an ambiguity about their nuke program, besides the utility role they are playing alongside the Saudis to fk up Muslim world from within. Until we have strong leadership and internal stability, we have to babysit these rather spoiled Persians unfortunately.
