Gen Kayani should be given title of field marshal: Malik

I believe Kiyani should be made Field Marshall due to the following achievements:

1. He manages to licke not only Ameican A$$ but Zardari's A$$ for 5 years successfully.
2. He made PA a laughing stalk among the other armies of the world.
3. His brothers are filling their bank accounts like anything (so as his).

Above all he is a coward who acts like an ostrich. What a shame.

He did nothing on his own. he respected the decisions of civilian Govt. He played a major part in strengthening democracy. Had he taken over, you would have been crying against Marshal law then.

For someone to become Field Marshal, you first have to command "Armies" in a war. The definition is up for debate, but the point is that nobody in the Pakistani armed forces is deserving of this rank.

Gen Kiyani will retire and recede into oblivion given his personality. He won't be found politicking.

DGMO is not a must have for the bump up to CoAS although anyone who makes it to DGMO's slot certainly has a much better appreciation of what is happening in and around the Pakistan Army than any other serving Maj/Lt Gen. One definite is that you must have commanded a Corps which interestingly enough was not the case with Nawaz Sharif's replacement for Musharraf.

Martial law and the rank of Field Marshal are two non-related issues. The rank of FM is awarded to a General Staff Officer who has lead field armies in battle against an adversary. I am in total agreement with you on RM not having an ounce of the matter that really matters.
