Gaode Map launches lane level navigation, Huawei phones first to be supported
2020-10-31 16:08:37 GMT+8 | cnTechPost
Alibaba-backed Auto-Navi Software Co., also known as Gaode Map, today announced the launch of lane level navigation, which enables users to determine which lane their car is in during navigation, thanks to the high precision positioning capabilities of Huawei's Mate 40 series phones.
According to Gaode Map, lane level navigation recreates real-life road scenarios with high accuracy and provides more detailed lane level movement guidance when changing lanes, such as when approaching turnarounds or highway ramps, making navigation less difficult to understand and enhancing driving safety.
Based on the Gaode Map data and Huawei Location Kit's positioning capabilities, the feature is available on Huawei Mate 40 series, P40 series, Mate Xs, and Honor 30 Pro series phones.
This function currently covers high and expressways in Shenzhen and will be extended to other cities in the future.
Earlier this week, China Mobile unveiled the world's largest "5G + BeiDou high-precision positioning" system at the 5G Autopilot Summit, which will provide sub-meter, centimeter, and millimeter high-precision positioning services in real-time through 5G networks.
Gaode Map's local rival Baidu Maps said it took the lead in reaching in-depth cooperation with China Mobile to access the "5G + BeiDou high-precision positioning" system, becoming the first map vendor in the industry to support the carrier's consumer-grade mobile phone precision positioning system, which will bring high-precision lane level navigation services to users of mainstream brand smartphones.
