ISLAMABAD-Gandhara Nissan Limited on Wednesday intended to restart its production in Pakistan under new Auto Development policy by making huge investment by starting production of “Datsun” by 2017.

Gandhara Nissan Limited is a group of company of Bibojee Services Pvt limited. They are pioneer in manufacturing automobiles. Renault is a French Multinational automobile manufacturer established in 1899.
The company produces a range of cars and vans.Renault became the 7th largest automaker in the world in 2013.Renault has been part of Volvo trucks since 2001. And it is also known for motor sport, particularly rallying and Formula 1.

Category A is green field investment, and it is defined as the installation of new and independent automotive assembly and manufacturing facilities by an investor for the production of vehicles which have not been made before in Pakistan.
Category B is brown Field investment, is defined as revival of an existing assembly and manufacturing facilities.

I don't see improvement in quality and choice. All that is coming to Pakistan is outdated and old models which have been out of production in the developing world for a long time because of lack of safety and quality standards. Look at our Mehran, less than 800 cc car, no air bag and no safety features plus extremely painful to drive. I wish we learned even from India. In Lucknow we have all sorts of cars.

That's how it will start. First old outdated cars which are a little better than existing ones. As few companies gain foothold, they will compete for market share driving costs down while offering better technology at better terms. Pakistan is considered a risky investment at the moment. Initial steps from investors will be cautious ones.

Common sense says if a car is good as a taxi then its reliable. BTW, with the new Nissan Maxima 2016, Nissan has taken design segment to another level. If you see the interior, thats not very taxi like. Nissan has now introduced Sat Nav, Bluetooth connectivity, cruise control and 6 air bags as standard features and still we are buying crap in the name of Honda, Toyota and Suzuki.

Yes it is so true. A Honda City costs in Pakistan as much as an Accord in Saudi and in that price you get a microscopic 1.3 Lt. engine with a lot of plastic inside.

thats common sense but if someone is spending a million on a car that person wouldnt want to get a cars that looks like a taxi, but we are talking about the times when Nissan was Datsun thats 40 years ago. Maxima always had nice interior and was never associated with a taxi, even hyundai now is avialable with all the options, do you think Toyota and Honda dont have those options avialalbe! just not available in Pakistan and thats because of cost i think.

I think its just crappy journalism and since Gandhara was producing Datsun some 40 years ago so our good journalist thinks they will still make Datsun, they cannot make Datsun even if they want to, who will make parts for it.

Nissan is a nice car but in Pakistan it failed because Toyota gave cheaper parts. May parents owned a Nissan till the the production of Nissan stopped. This was the time everyone thought that the problem of spares would not be available and maintenance costs would increase.

In Japan the company went for a merger and ended up is the sale to Renault. Today Renault - Nissan has started producing cars for both ends high performance and small ones.

The Datsun 120 is a very reliable car as it is easy to maintain. the same engine is being produced till today and those are available in Pakistan in bulk. How ever since the introduction of Yellow cab local manufacturers disliked that imported cars came. If you might remember Nissan sunny 1.7D and Nissan Cressida 2.2 was available in this scheme.

This scheme also had cars like Toyota Coronna, Toyota Crown, Mercedes in the 2.0+ category. Pegeot also had two models.

None of these cars are seen on the roads, what we see today are the Hyundai, Daewoo, Suzuki and Daihatsu. A lot of radio cabs that own Toyota Corolla.

Come out from the 90's.

Now to answer your question Who makes Datsun anymore?
When Datsun brand evolved with the 1985 design the name was changed to Nissan. When the company was bought by Renault the name of Nissan was also sold.

The original name of Datsun was never offered or sold. The owners who sold their company want to restart the name that they have, this name is DATSUN.

Gandhara-Nissan is a company that is mostly owned by Pakistani's This company was not sold, they still have the contract to produce Nissan with the old owners. How they are going to go about making these cars is for them to figure out. Would there be a name change or two brands from the same plant depends on a new contract.

Ref. to the link at the end.

To improve quality one has to define what they want. This is done by the state depending on various factors.

Nissan makes excellent quality cars. With you on this 100%. Outdated models as in outdated by international standards. Say 2-4 years old which will be way way better than what we are getting right now.

For once Pakistan as taken steps to introduce Euro 2 or above engines, though still they are very old in comparison to European models today. The Euro 2 standard was made compulsory in UK in the late 80's early 90's.

Because of low spare parts availability.
Why Toyota and Suzuki have success in Pakistani market ? because parts available even in small towns.

If people have to travel for even small parts long distances the product fails
and that's the reason many good brands are rejected by consumers.

research on what, we are talking about a news about a company who stop production in the 80s. you want me to quit my job, go to library and dig out old papers on Datsun. Some people love this word research.

Nissan in the UK is despised by repair mechanics due to the various component designs being difficult to access and unnecessarily complicated. On top of that, the long term reliability is very average as the Nissan engine is embedded in the essentially French Renault. And the French are notorious for their auto-mobile electronics. I own a very French Pug and would get rid of it at the drop of a hat, providing my finances allow.
Saying that, the local nature of a brand depends upon the region manufacturing head and their respective policy efficiency. A Honda, Suzuki or Toyota car in the UK is considered very reliable, economic and fun to drive.

If you are old tech otherwise use Google...
