Gandhara Nissan intends to restart production in Pakistan

I never understood why people don't buy Nissan in Pakistan. I own a Nissan now and its bloody good. Especially, the engine.

Ditto, Nissan makes great cars, the same injustice was done to Mitsubishi by Pakistanis, I cannot think of a better car than the Lancer in the Sedan-class.

The problem is not the cars, it is the mechanics, spare parts, and local conditions including faulty lubricants and fuel.

Mein tei Honda e laisaan ! :D

A better car; there is none ! :smokin:

And I prefer my old Honda from the '90s more so than the new ones ! :agree:

Hahahahahahaha, man that is pure gold.

Sir, I understand the Pakistani qaum very well, despite what people may say or think about me on PDF. If you remember, in one of the other threads about new car entrants to the Pakistani market, I already alluded to this bher-chaal mentality of the consumers in Pakistan and how that would make life very difficult for any new entrant.

European Brands will be able to bypass this set back though, only one thing trumps resale and that is brand, European vehicles are synonymous with luxury and wealth so I think they have a better chance to make a dent in the market.
Though the market has shown some anomalies recently, just as Hyundai managed to overturn Bolan and Ravi's three decade hold on the loader market, FAW has broken through Hino's Monopoly in heavy trucks as well. So there might be a chance for a new entrant if they manage to hit a particularly slow section of the market, say, the entry-level hatchback segment?

The Europeans brands have one huge problem, and that is the numbers needed for a viable business plan. A low-cost Chinese maker will have a much easier time building up a viable plan if they can compete on cost with the existing choices in the market, and offer better products. The luxury market will remain imported for the foreseeable future, I think.

Because of low spare parts availability.

In that case Gandhara's network is bad.

Lancer is now more Evoish and not in the same class as Civic, Corolla, Cruz, Elantra, Sentra etc. As a matter of fact, Nissan's Sentra can give good competition to both Corolla and Civic.

China has a serious image problem in the auto sector, Changan, Cherry and a host of other brands that I have almost never seen on the road have entered the market at various times with very competitively priced products but have been done in by the lack of durability of their products. FAW is a Chinese manufacturer offering decent vehicles but again, their prices are more or less at par with the more well-established Japanese brands which limits their overall impact on the consumer trade.

As for the European Brands, how competitive they are will eventually depend on the kind of duty structure that they enter the market with. The Higher-end basic Sedan market right now stands around US$24-27k, I think a large portion of the population will be looking to upgrade their finance plans to add about another US$10,000 if it gets them a BMW or an Audi Basic Sedan.

All told, it will be very difficult for just about any new entrant to be successful, for many reasons already known. What you call "a large portion" may not be enough in thousands of units sold to make a viable plan.

Let alone Nissan, I believe following cars should make some market in Pakistan provided the manufacturers choose their distributors wisely.

Hyundai Elantra:

China has a serious image problem in the auto sector

Chinese manufacturers counter COO image with augmented offers like 5 years warranty etc. Toyota and Honda give the lowest warranty in Pakistan. I think standard warranty is only 20k kms or 2 years and when you go with an issue, they never want to claim it.
