I appologize, I thought the central powers lost the first world war. It was very nice of Turkey to give up all that territory, seeming as how they were victors, lol. Denial, it's not just a river in Egypt!

khalid waleed you are Indian so I don't know, but in Pakistan, Quaid-e-Azam often used to praise and give the example of Ataturk, saying, in 1938, when Ataturk passed away, that this great Mussalman should be an example for all of us. Iqbal dedicated a poem to Ataturk's feats in Gallipoli. Some of our leaders, in particular Ayub Khan and Pervez Musharraf, often cited Ataturk as their model for a political leader. In fact, just today, when reading about the NATO attack on Pakistan, I was thinking that we need a figure like Ataturk to bring us up at this time.

They confused the terms battle and war, get over it.

Easy mistake. In WWII, the Germans knocked France completely out of the war (unlike Gallipoli, which was one defensive battle, like MANY others). Pretty sure the Germans lost that war too...

(PS...I am aware the Turks did very well at Gallipoli, like most battles of that war, the defense had an edge. Yet, the British force were NOT wiped out, only unable to advance. Actually a damned good show on their part.)

If it werent for Gallipoli then Turkey as a nation would probably not exist today as the allies would have marched on to Istanbul and basically taken over the country. West Turkey + Thrace (including Istanbul) would have been given to Greece. South Coast to Italy, South East to France, East + North to Armenia. At most you would have a small Turkish state centered in the middle of Anatolia around Ankara. That is why the Turks fought with such extreme bravery at Gallipoli. How would Muslims have been treated in these states. Do you actually know what Greece and the Balkan states did to the Muslims there? There is always this hoopla over a so called Armenian "genocide". How many Muslims were massacred all over the Balkans when they were left under Chrsitian rule? That would have been the fate of Anatolian Muslims had it not been for the victory at Gallipoli.

Great post. Thanks for this analyse which is reflecting the truths. The countries attacked on Turkey in this war (Turks not only fought at Gallipoli, but also many other fronts simultaneously to defend homeland against more than 5-6 different countries), had a plan to seperate Turkey into many pieces... After those wars, Turkey had lost almost all engineer/student populations That's why We call this war like the boodiest of all in World. The rise of M. Kemal Ataturk and Pakistan-Turkey brotherhood started in those years. Pakistani nation fully supported Turkey with their money and hearts and did everything benefical for Turkey...

That was the purpose of that war...

Thanks Cabatli, i have a Turkish friend whose family and all relatives were kicked out of Bulgaria just for being Muslims and Turks. They weren't allowed to pray in Mosques, couldn't speak Turkish etc. Unfortunately many people forget the big sacrifices Turkish people have made for the cause of Islam. I can relate to him as the maternal side of my family had to escape from a village on the Punjab/Kashmir border that fell on the Indian side in 1947. Anyways let wiki enlighten us a bit:

"Massacres against Turks and Muslims during the Balkan Wars in the hands of Bulgarians, Greeks and Armenians are described in detail in the 1912 Carnegie Endowment report.[34] Hupchick estimates that nearly 1,5 million Muslims died and 400,000 became refugees as a result of the Balkan Wars.[35] The Bulgarian violence during the Balkan War included burning of villages, transforming mosques into churches, rape of women and mutilation of bodies. It is estimated that 220,000 Pomaks were forcefully Christianized and forbidden to bear Islamic religious clothing.[36]

1.5 million Muslims used to live in Bulgaria before Russo-Turkish War (1877–1878). After the Turkish defeat, the Russian army along with irregular troops that included Cossacks entered Bulgaria and carried out massacres and deportations against Muslim people with the aid of the Bulgarians. Half a million Muslims succeeded in going to Ottoman controlled lands and 672.215 Muslim were reported to have remained after the war in Bulgaria. Approximately a quarter of a million Muslims perished from massacres, cold, disease and other harsh conditions.[37] "I can come to no other conclusion but that the Russians are carrying out a fixed policy exterminating the Moslem race"."[38]

This would have been the fate of the Turks of Anatolia had there been no victory at Gallipoli. Hence it is very clearly a victory of Islam.

How history gets forgotten....the founding of the new Turkish republic was the defeat of Islam in that region and birth of secularism. The damage Attaturk did to Islam in Turkey could not have been done by a worst enemy of Islam.

What damage? Ataturk saved the Turkish Muslims from being colonized by the European powers and their allies, modernized and developed the new nation-state, strengthened the Turkish nation, and got rid of an ineffective, puppet monarch, paving the way for Turkey to rise again.

Few examples:
he banned the fez, the traditional hat of the Turkish men, and required that they wear the European style hat. the Latin alphabet replaced the Arabic ones. the European calendars and metric system replaced the Islamic ones. woman were encourage to vote, work, and hold office. new laws made it illegal for woman to wear veils. All Mosques were under state control and whatever they teach had to be approved by the State. He came down hard on anybody complaining about this.
There is more, a lot more he did.....just read up on it.

So you claim that hats, letters, measurement systems , giving or not giving women equal rights are all about Islam.

So for you a Muslim;
- must wear a fez ,
- must be preferably illiterate (Literacy rate was less than %5 before Republic now more than %99 thanks to easy learning latin alphabet ),
- must use ancient measurement systems and always must have difficulties with world trade, preferably don't make world trade instead non-muslim minorities like greeks and armenians do worldwide trade for him,
- must not give women equal rights, lock them in their houses and never use them in industry and business world as manpower and always use %50 capacity of the population,
- must never spread true Islam belief, must always have 1000's of different sects and groups fighting with each other and never live in a peace, (unity is not something for only christian churchs)

Ataturk tried to find solutions for these kind of problems that led Turks get weakend during history,

I don't believe your sincerity for your comments and criticizes about Ataturk and Islam besides I don't think that you are number one Islam and Turk expert as an Armenian guy :D

That's the actual point... :) Even If Ataturk created a paradise for Turks in Anatolia, You would have been trying to find something to criticize him as an Armenian suffering from Turks leading the own region and modern, secular Turkish Republic established by Ataturk and having advanced technologies in your region...
