General brigadier Barq Abdullah of special forces (Brigade 66) - 1984 during operation in Iran - Survived the Iran war. Was known to be one of the bravest commanders to lead before his soldiers, and to never give up ground.

2nd gulf war, he was stationed in kuwait. He was given orders not leave kuwait whatsover, saddam made a visit to kuwait and told the soldiers if they ever hear his voice on the radio commanding them to leave, they should not follow the orders. Kuwiat is Iraqi land and you should never leave. (Brigadier Barq was against the kuwait war, but strictly followed orders)

When the coalition forces were preparing to attack Iraqi troops, saddam radioed the soldiers to leave. This man refused to follow orders, given saddam previous commands. He fought in the desert storm, lost many good soldiers, but survived and returned to Baghdad.

Saddam called him up to the republican palace, he asked him why he didn't follow orders when he was asked to leave. Brigadier Barq explained that he was following orders he prevoisuly given. Saddam, called him a coward, Barq, known for his short temper, replied to saddam, saying, a coward is a man who goes back on his words. Saddam took out his pistol and shot him in the head.

@Dizer

Thanks for posting that Faw Peninsula map. Had read about the battles there so it was neat seeing it on a map.

Dictatorships come in all forms: nationalist, theocratic, socialist...

They're all shitty and always end in failure.

For Iraqis it was certainly pointless and a failure but Iran and Iranians had no choice and fought to defend the country which was done well .
