Future Babies of PAF (F-16D 52+)

I think mr Murad hit the truth.
Whatever India aka USA will do there will be alternatives. The reason that India does not know what to do is the reason we have to wait. But it is almost childish to see that US is offering them nuclear tech, latest f18/f16 etc. But that meand we will get Russian or Chinese tech and that will hut US more... Cause they will be without influence... We are slowly developing towards consultants/technology center so with Chinese/Russian planes we will have a piece to add.....

I like us sitting on the top of the table. :smokin:

Sir the production of PAF's block 52 has already been started with first aircraft being expected early next year. What makes you think that US' next government will cancell the deal when we're repeatedly assured by Bush's administration that she'll not make the same mistakes as in the past, i.e. imposing fresh sanctions on F-16's. :undecided:

The so called good weather friendship of the US? I think history proved it several times and looking at how stupid the follow up for Bush is there will be no difference. I heared on Pakdef that neo con ambassador of the US did her best to stop Pakistani SLV... No wonder she was there to be in picture when they delivered F16's..

Thats more like it.

Rafael option should also be evaluated. The fighter has failed to achieve any foreign order and French might be desparate to obtain orders. They might even offer good package on price and maintenance.

Ejaz007 Saheb,
If I rememeber correctly, the rafale has been evaluated by PAF.Whereas the nitty gritty of it might be best described by Muradk or x_man, I think in general it is too expensive for PAF to maintain as well as to buy. it still does not have an AESA radar. In any case considering current circumstances and financial situation, and the needs of the Navy and PAF's acquisition plans, I dont think we are going to acquire anything other than F16, J10 and Thunder.

Sir Muradk and X_man
The million dollar question is do we have to go for Gripen and would it give us any advantage over what we are going to procure. Yes if F16 s get denied to us, then there may be a case for it.
I would want someone to explain to me what is the advantage of getting Gripen that we cant develop with the Thunder and J10s.
Two bits of tidbits from Sino defence.com . Firstly China is actively working on DRFM.Secondly a whif from someone regarding the recently announced EW set for F16s. Apparently it containd DRFM as an integral part.

Gripen was an alternate to F-16s...(when we had lost all the hopes , probably)..it wasn’t and never will be considered parallel or at par with F-16s....Till the time we are keep getting the F-16s and linger on with the hope of getting more, Gripen will remain under the carpet...

Few PAF pilots flew it in 2004/2005 and spoke very high of it...but they were out of the loop in the decision to acquire these...We have never operated a Swedish fighter before, so don’t know that how they will behave with us...because Pakistan has a habit of getting into troubles and slapped by embargoes and blockages.....So it was also a consideration that Swedes might turned up worst than Americans when it comes to embargoes.. ..Who knows....?..:undecided:

I will still stick to my guns, and believe that its time now that except F-16s, PAF should go all Chinese ...They have an array of pretty decent fighters coming up that are not only operationally at par with the western ones but are affordable too .....The sinusoidal experience we had with F-16s in past 25 years should be enough to open our eyes..

A Less capable fighter is still better than a No Fighter....:pop:

Erieye with Gripen and is better then any other option available at the moment. Certainly when it comes to TOT.

But what about getting the engines from the US?

X_man.
Thank you for your post. I have always had the thought that the Gripen is a bit short on range, and has too few hard points. The only advantage that it had was its link system and ability to land and take off from relatively small airfields, and aswing role aircraft.
We can incorporate all these characteristics in Thunder. Even the change made in Gripen NG can be made in the second tranche. The quality of Gripen may be better, but the capabilties can certainly be reproduced.
I also fully agree with your assessment of the chinese aircrafts. Firstly, they are free of embargoes, secondly their technology can be passed on to us to improve our own aviation industry, and thirdly, the prospects of joint ventures. So al in all a good prospect.

Grippen ..... I agree with Araz.

But only chinese tech based PAF is far away i would say.

Getting Rafale is always a possibility provided we have enough in the pocket. Furthermore, i strongly believe that the US trying to get involved with India Militarily (in terms of Fighters and Nuclear Program and all) will open Russian hardware for sale in coming future. Eventually they want to sell and there is no brotherhood with India!

Let me get this straight are we getting f16 E ?

Wrong move :(

Stick to F16 C 52 Block
