Police in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday arrested a French journalist in the state’s capital, Srinagar, for making a documentary on pellet victims.

“Comiti Paul Edward has been detained for violating visa norms in Srinagar,” a senior police officer was quoted by IANS.

Edward, who was shooting separatists and pellet victims for his documentary, was arrested from Kothibagh area.

Scores of protesting youths suffered injuries from pellet guns used in 2016 following an unrest in the valley after the 8 July killing of Hizbul commander Burhan Wani. Some lost vision totally or partially after their injuries.

One police officer said that Edward has a passport and a business visa for India, valid up to 22 December, 2018 adding that a business visa did not allow anyone to make a documentary on political or security related issues.

Police said that they had registered an FIR (87/2017) under section 14 (B) Passport Act and Edward was currently lodged in Police Station Kothibagh. A former journalist with French TV channel, TF 1, Edward received an award in 2009 in Bayeux for his reports on French soldiers being ambushed in Afghanistan.

Kashmiri's have not given up. Wait until after our election, and our victory in Afghanistan. Watch how guns from Kabul end up in Kashmir. Every home with produce a Burhan Wani and we will continue to do so until there are no Indians left in Kashmir.

So now this French citizen will be completely banned from entering Republic of India.

Violating visa norms gets you deported

If he wanted to shoot a documentary, he should have applied for the specific visa, instead of attempting DIY.

These seems to be the weapons of Afghanistan security forces which are being routed inside Republic of India. Situation around Durrand Line is tensed and even daily clashes are taking place there. American Equipment is being used by Afghanistan Security forces.

Here its quite amusing that even Indian Journalists have to obtain permission from the State and Center before entering border provinces as its more about giving security to the Journalists and this French Citizen violated all international norms.

Journalists who risk their lives for a story deserve some credit,They are far better than yellow journalists from fox news, cnn etc. Take a look at jay bahadur for example

Not really , there have been cases in which the filming by strangers have created problems for security forces.

Suspected operative Abdul Nayeem Sheikh, who was arrested last month from Lucknow, had spent some time in trouble-torn south Kashmir and filmed some Army installations, officials said. Sheikh, a resident of Aurangabad in Maharashtra, was on the radar of central intelligence agencies for quite sometime before he was nabbed with the help of Uttar Pradesh police in the last week of November.

During interrogation, Sheikh disclosed that he had stayed in Pulwama, moved to various places with the help of Malik and even photographed some Army and para-military camps, the officials claimed. Sheikh, who was wanted in connection with a 2014 terror case and was since on the run, told investigators that some important power projects and railway tracks in the Valley were surveyed, they said.

He had also visited some places in Himachal Pradesh, especially Kasol, which is frequented by Israeli nationals visiting India, according to the officials. Security agencies have claimed that Sheikh was roped in for a recce mission similar to that undertaken by David Headley, a Pakistan-American, who is at present serving a prison sentence of 35 years at a US jail for his involvement in terror activities and the 26/11 Mumbai attacks of 2008.
