$90 Billion is no joke. US Navy is going to use all that money to transform it self into a new beast. Underwater warfare requires lot of research in artificial intelligence and quantum computing.

US Navy is working on system similar to GPS for oceans. In decade or so we might see missile strikes via Unmanned and Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (UUV / AUV).

Don't think the quoted figure is correct. 90 Billion for just 12 French diesel electric submarines is way too high unless they are *thunder sub" (animated series) which would turn into an aircraft carrier when surfaced.
The new deal makes sense considering the fact that US is more likely to come to Australia's aid than French in event of hostilities in Pacific region.

I am predicting rise of tensions between UK and France in Europe. Europe is going to go back to times of World War II. Not fully but issues between countries will increase from now. Plus smaller countries in Europe will join China camp.

its more than just the sales. its the fact that the us and Co. did so without consultation, messages or any warning to the french and EU. the french didn't find out about this until the day of the declaration, they called it a stab in the back, and it does seem like it. that said, EU needs to grow a backbone and take care of their own defence before they can have an independent foreign policy. we'll see if this wake up slap to the face leads them to that direction.

Mate...I must admit I haven't watched any of your videos nor did any research. But when I did it's still not 90 billion USD unless life cycle maintenance & operating costs are included.

The contract was worth around 50 billion Australian dollars (€31 billion, $36.5 billion) when announced in 2016
