France and Italy have expressed intent to export new generation combat aircraft to Bangladesh, according to diplomatic sources in Paris and Rome.

French defence minister Florence Parly was scheduled to reach Dhaka early Monday on a short visit to seemingly move the proposal for selling Rafale, a twin-jet fighter aircraft, and unmanned combat air vehicle among other military hardware.

Florence Parly is scheduled to call on prime minister Sheikh Hasina and foreign minister AK Abdul Momen during her one-day official visit on Monday. She is scheduled to leave Dhaka on Monday afternoon.

Italy already expressed intent to sell fighter jets, jointly produced with the UK, Germany and Spain, and frigates in the first week of February in Rome.

The US too was in the process of selling different military hardware, including Apache helicopters, to Bangladesh, according to US diplomats in Dhaka.

The French Air Chief already made an attempt to sell Rafale last month with his visit. Looks like the French are stepping up their game.

I like the fact that we seem to have only Western Platforms lined up, hoping that means there will be less corruption (wishful thinking on my part).
But let's hope this does not cause further delay to the acquisition process. Sometimes too much choice isn't beneficial for business.

The west heavily exploit poor nations and it's officials so it means more corruption.

France and Italy want to sell BD fighters - Rafale and Eurofighter

Italy wants to sell BD frigates - pitch for next gen frigate programme no less.

Whoever wins these contracts is in line to make billions of US dollars this decade and long may the interest from West continue.:enjoy:

Rafale niye lafale hobe na. It's not economic.

Who told you that?

Rafale is both slightly cheaper to buy and operate than Eurofighter.

Currently electronically Rafale is ahead of the Eurofighter although BAF can order with AESA radar and newer electronics than the partner nations operate.

Only reason it is out of contention is that India has brought 36 Rafales.

It is good to see many famous planes are being offered to our BAF. If IAF has a few Rafaels we can have also this plane but with a few different and improved technical specifications.

I wonder if BAF is in the process of inducting a total of 36 new MRCA and MMRCA planes in the near term.

Seen India get raped among other gulfs states? Cheaper to operate maybe but they rape you in acquisitions

Very bad idea to buy Rafales as the French only care about money. Remember how they did not provide an avionics package to Pakistan for JF-17 as India dangled the 126 plane MRCA contract in front of them.
Whatever BD buys, India can buy 10x more.

If BAF gets Rafale, forget about ever using it against India even if India was the aggressor.
At least with USA and UK/Italy, BD would probably not be sanctioned
as long as it was defensive.

From what I understand BD is looking for 1 squadron air-superiority fighters for BAF and 1 squadron naval strike for BN.
This is a total of 16 + 16 = 32 planes.

Yeah you are right as they will charge more for bombs and missiles.

Overall it will have the same cost as Eurofighter I would think.

Not quite as good as Eurofighter in air-to-air but beats Eurofighter in weapons load and air-to-ground.

So I guess 16 EFT and 16 super hornet ( f 18? )

Hard to say to be honest as BAF finally has so much choice!

Those two aircraft will not be bad although rather expensive to buy and operate.

My guess is that 1 squadron will be Western and the other Chinese. BD will want to hedge it's bets.

Euro fighter is designed more as a air superiority fighter but rafale places more on precision strike... but given Bangladesh seriously lacks AirPower and will play a more defensive war, EFT imo is the way to go.
Not to mention Indians will not have worked out the tactics needed to defeat EFT WVR

Hard to say about hornets tbh. It depends
