The only mistake Russia made is that they have gone slow to avoid civilian casualty. This has give a window of opportunity to NATO to supply Ukraine with a lot of weapons which could enable an insurgency in the future. Russia should have gone with full might, captured Ukraine very quickly and seal the borders on the west so no weapon can come in.

No. Russian military operation is brilliantly executed. They breached Ukraine from 6 different directions including through Belarus in short order. This is the best Russia could do in theory.

Quality of Russian army is questionable on the other hand. Ukrainian resistance surprised Russians as well.
