I am starting this thread because for past six months I am noticing strange phenomena. And that is that both France and Germany have major English news channels. French one is called France 24 and German one is called DW. What is interesting is. That France 24 when it comes to covering Pakistan is not of in totally in our favor but to quite extent is showing us in positive light. They recently even exposed Indian media and its lies. On the other hand DW it's spewing venom against us. And there is not stopping it. DW documentary against jihadism in the world was also basically against us. Also their on Ahmad Shah Masood was against us. What on earth is going on ? Can anyone make sense of this.

Germans like order and there is a general public weariness of any indicators of a threat coming to their shores, while the French depend on a “symbiotic” relationship with many Muslim countries, try to find ways to still operate (and earn revenue for their companies) there.

Germans may seem reserved while the French will highlight weird things out of other countries like the Indian video game based claims. DW seems to be around for a while but France 24 is trying to make a name for itself with more eye catching journalism. An analysis of who watches which channels should show what their target demographics are and if they are successful at reaching them.

perhaps this is why, or maybe I’m way off the mark on this one.

DW is extremely anti Pakistan and I dont understand why its the case. They have correspondents in Pakistan who are Pakistani but spew rubbish fat on stereotypes about the country like Army controlling everything and democracy isnt being allowed to take root.

In my opinion they are neither friends nor enemies of Russia or China. There are some areas where there will be cooperation between eg China and France and there are areas where there will be competition

DW is one of the main actors of the campaign against Turkey. While the geopolitical issues between Turkey and France are more complex, even France 24 has a more reasonable editorial understanding than DW.

Frankly, I am quite surprised that a similar situation is also valid on the Pakistani side. This means that there is a deeper and global divergence at the core of the issue.

I have been listening to both since the 70's on shortwave. RFI and Deutche-Welle radio. Their tunes change based on who is in power and relationship with the target countries. DW had and continues to have the most driest news ever on the planet - i rather listen to a plant speak to me or as Bro Irfan @Irfan Baloch says... watch God's medicine plant take effect.

It is still better than Radio China International or KCNA on shortwave. Can you imagine. I am not kidding you.. there is a weekly series on Chairman Mao's diaries during his Long March. Back last December, they were enacting the narrations from his diaries and his body guard. Guess what - they were speaking on how his conspitation was chronic and he only went to the loo once a week; and if that was not enough his flatulance. Yes - I am not kidding - If you have a shortwave radio - listen to that program on weekend. It will make your evening. This is from their state broadcaster.

Radio Moscow has stopped most of their shortwave broadcasts; they prefer to use RT instead as their propaganda mouth piece.

Radio Czech is still broadcasting and has good programming. Radio Havana Cuba is also not bad.

Get your self a shortwave radio - it is great fun.

PS: I was shortwave monitor for a few radio stations back in the day incl. Radio Netherlands. I use Sony ICF7600, Kenwood R2000 radio receiver.

Oh I can't remember if DW had an intro jingle. We had a little flat Sony shortwave in the late 70's that we'd listen to various news from around the world. My brother would even write to them.
