Four killed, more than 150 injured in Ctg container depot fire

The way we handle hazardous materials, we are our own biggest enemy.

The main culprits are the depot owners. They should be arrested immediately.
  • They didn't have the infrastructures to store chemicals there.
  • Didn't put the chemicals separately.
  • Told the fire-fighters it was RMG products. Closed the main gate after they entered. This is the main reason for more causalities and deaths of our firefighters. They would've used foam instead of water if they were informed at the beginning.
  • The owner and stuffs were missing since the incident so the firefighters couldn't figure out how much chemicals were stored there. Now new report says that the owner and officials don't even know how much chemicals they stored there and where they stored.
  • Firefighters delayed to use better equipment. Better water cannon used in morning and hazmat suits came from Dhaka after two days.
  • Specialist came from Dhaka to treat burnt patients.
Wonder why Ctg don't have specialist and hazmat suits. Even Ctg port is at risk. The shipping minister said few chemical scanners were added and they scan sometimes. Sounds like govt/port authorities are not responsible either. Even after incidents in Old Dhaka we don't learn our lesson and we never will.

Because shouwa government is obsessed with centralisation of power and keeping all important services within the confines of Dhaka, going by some feverish logic; where Bangladesh will fall "apart", If not "controlled" from a central nexus; Dhaka.
