Its not religious practice per se its an ideology to think on the day/days. How those people lived gloriously on those days without harming others, people should think alt least on that day. IMO bagawat gita ,yoga , dharmic religions should be preached in schools then only we built disciplined society and keep our identity with ourselves. I have no time to dig old threads.

Never going to happen. You don't correct an injustice by doing an equal and opposite injustice. You correct an injustice by laying down just principles and then forcing EVERYONE to stick to those principles. The issue is that you gotta have the balls to take on some reactionary people, so not easy to do...and I am not sure whether out political class or our media are ready.

Unable to open that video .

It was the Carly simon song " you're so vain, I bet you think this song is about you ".

I think that fairly summarizes the interest in this by some nosy Parkers.

As far as I'm concerned, its 4 days too many.

I'm not a Jain.

And I like my meat fresh. No pre-packaged ice slab crap in my household.
You sound like my nephew - he describes himself as a "pure non-vegetarian" and claims that spinach gives him depression and other "mental problems". A fact that his mother, my sister, refuses to believe.

.
4 days? thats like 100 hrs or something .... I mean how can people live with that such kind of restriction.

Do not know...this is the first time I heard about it. Anyways it is Shravan month for me. Observing vegetarianism for the whole month for the first time in a long time, so would not have been an issue otherwise too.

Ande aur macchi se kaam chala loh kuch din. I will take fish over meat any day.

It's NOT about the restriction, it is about the principles. Don't force your religious tenets down my throat. This should be Applied equLly to All personal beliefs.

Simple respecting their ideology like we committed to Gandhi's birthday. Day today life its impossible to follow their principles yearly once we can. In conclusion Jainism is belongs to dharmic religion.

You don't earn respect by shoving your faith down the throat of others using a ban, 'ban' is a tool of fascists, respect come naturally, and those who want to show respect to Jain festival by becoming vegetarians for four days can do so at their own free will, those who don't need not be forced....you earn hatred in this way, not respect.

Should everybody made to eat meat on the day of Eid to show respect to our Muslim community, or made to sip wine on the day of Christians' festival? Or they don't deserve similar respect? What about Hindus? Should everybody made to eat the meat from animal sacrifice to Maa Kali? Or the 'respect' should be selective?

Just the bold parts? I mean how can we allow hindus to walk in India? They must be culled. For Indian secularism we must all turn to Dhimmis.

There is a difference between Hindus and Hindutvadis, which of the two you are proposing to cull? However, I am not in favour of such savagery. :)

Pleased to see the Sena coming out in protest against this absurdity.

Mumbai is probably the last city in the world you want to shove something down the throat of against its collective wishes.

Cheers, Doc

What state has anything to do with what people should or should not eat lol imposing such meat ban is only possible in secular bombay lol

It seem Indian state has nothing contructive to do than coming up with this stupid ban on meat. I think even beef should be available to those who wish to eat it. Why they should sacrfice their food taste for others? Every one should eat according to their culture/food habits

For Mumbaikars, some good news.

MNS is selling mutton at subsidized rates today and on every day of the government's meat ban in Dadar.

So head to Dadar and pick up mutton and let us know the cost. If its cheap enough, I'll probably drive down and pick up some myself.

Chalo Agar Bazaar.

Jai Hind. Jai Maharashtra.

It is Shiv Sena which has imposed this rule. BMC is ruled by Sena. BJP just has 35 seats.

You know but bawa g Halal means properly slaughter in a Muslim way.

Oh ok.

No idea man. I'm really not fussed about these things. Though yes, Muslim mutton and Kolhapuri mutton does taste different.

Must be the blood thing.

In the old days in Jamshedpur, it was my job to cycle from home to the butcher shop and buy the meat. I used to see these red jelly cakes, perfectly round there.

I asked the butcher what those were. He said it was the blood of the animal drained into tins, which then coagulates into these jelly cakes.

It used to be a major delicacy for our adivasis, who I hear used to cut it up into small chunks and make a sort of sabzi stew out of it. I never gathered the guts to ever try it myself, not that my mom would have really appreciated me getting the stuff home.
