Forgotten War: How China Was Crushed By Vietnam in a 1979 Conflict

. .
Vietnam was destroyed
People always forget that even though the US did lose 58,000 servicemen in Vietnam ... North Vietnam lost almost a million. I'm not going to say that the war was not a defeat or anything for the US since US troops did withdraw but if we are talking about pure military tactics and operation, the US was hardly defeated at all. At the end of the day, if it wasn't for the politicians and the Cold War-esque nature of the conflict, the US could have steamed through North Vietnam. Do people really think some country like North Vietnam's could not be conquered by a country that was literally planning to invade Japan just two decades prior?
Is the Khmer Rouge an ally of China?

China has infecting Pakistan with stupid illness.
One of the main reasons for the 1979 war was the Vietnamese invasion and overthrow of the Khmer Rouge (aka Pol Pots government). The Chinese Khmer Rouge partnership/alliance is all extremely well established by historians.

1. Vietnam invaded and overthrew the Chinese allied Cambodian Government.
2. China invaded Vietnam, taking a strategic mountain just 80 km from Vietnamese capital.
3. Vietnam announces to withdraw from Cambodia.
4. China withdrew from Vietnam.

Where is the Vietnamese victory in all of this?
Err...

Vietnam - Cambodia war began in 1979 which led to Vietnamese occupation of Cambodia and this occupation lasted till 1989.

China invaded Vietnam in 1979 in support of Cambodia but resulting clashes proved very costly to both in a span of 4 weeks. China called off its troops then.

When it come to military tactics North Vietnamese lost a lot of men. With number of troops in Vietnam I would have surprised the North Vietnamese by few frontal incursions. It would have forced the North Vietnamese to concentrate on defending the North instead of sending forces to the South.

Chinese mission was to liberate Cambodia from Vietnam by virtue of invading the latter but this strategy did not work and Cambodia could not be liberated by force.

Chinese - Vietnamese clashes were brutal to the extent that the invasion was called off in weeks.
But another objective of reaching lang son and cang bao in vietnam was achieved so as to secure Chinese border. There are plenty of photo showing Chinese occupy these areas.
