Forgotten Hero of 1971 - Tajjamul Hussain Malik

I respect his bravery as he claims he took strength from the examples of past Muslim commanders. Did he write in his book how many houses he burnt down; how many civilians he lined up, shot and threw in to the river and how many he and his troops raped; and which famous Muslim commander's example he followed in doing that? Khalid (RA), Abu Ubaidah (RA), Amr Ibnul Aas (RA), Salahuddin (RH) didn't do it as far as I know.

Thats the stories you grow up listening. None of what you said is true. Rapes were also done by Mukati bahnis or the Indians.

Either believe in the "All is fair in love and war" and stop pretending to take examples from Islamic heroes OR just be Islamic and don't say "All is fair in love and war". You can't have your cake and eat it.
In that case the Ottomans were the biggest kafirs? Despite being Head of "Ummah". Examples of Khalid etc. are used for motivation at tac level - every army has caused civvie losses. Especially an army sent in to restore writ of state in a hopeless situation when most of the populace is against it.

Yes I did wonder that. Hmmm let me think, perhaps the reason is our land is part of the Indian subcontient and we are of Indian race? Our current and all previous generations looked Indian and will continue to look so.

You on the other hand have been trying to disassociate yourselves from the Indian subcontinet and find greater affinity with the Central Asians and Arabs. Those pesky historians happened to have written about the likes of Bin Qasim, Ghaznavi, Ghori, Abdali and Khilji who frequently raided your land and occupied it. I wonder if that history has any relationship with your claim of ancestral ties with those races despite your people hailing from Indus!

I really felt sorry at the rough handling you got at the hands of re-writers of history who refuse to accept that their forces did anything wrong. My personal advice: stay out of these controversies. They will never accept any wrongdoing.

Incidentally, you were right about General Malik; he was not one of the murderous sort, but a proper fighting man.

These lands have seen numerous invaders agree, nearly all of their off springs have settled here. So we Pakistanis have indigenous Indus people plus the Central Asians,Persians,Afghans and Arabs here. We are proud of our Islamic Heritage and the Cultures that have enhanced and amalgamated in our Society.

They will never accept any wrongdoing.

I have a lot of Bengali friends in the UK and i do understand and appreciate your concerns. But one must admit that India exploited your genuine and legitimate concerns and made brother fight against brother. Excesses were done by both sides, some less and some more.

The thread started off discussing a Pakistani Army hero of 1971. If you lot are going to drag in your issues on EVERY single discussion, then the threads are going to get hijacked every time.

The discussion should have remained restricted to the gentleman and officer who is the subject of the thread.

I told you, @Bengal71, stay out of this. These are not topics that people find it easy to live with. Tajammul Malik had a clean reputation, and we should leave it at that. I am also withdrawing from the thread, but my admiration for this brave officer, the only one to get a promotion out of the pack, remains. After being captured, he was badly injured by the insurgents and spent time in hospital. A pity.

We have plenty of existing threads where discussions on the atrocities, the extent of atrocities, who committed what etc that occurred in 1971 have taken place.

All I'm pointing out is that not every single thread around the events of 1971 needs to get hijacked into a discussion on the atrocities of 1971. It's not by any means an unfair request. Trying to cast that desire to have discussions beyond those on atrocities in 1971 as some kind of 'refusal to address what happened' or 'censorship' is, however, unfair.

I have not said anything different. My point to Bengal71 was clear and transparent; the killings are difficult for people to handle. In case you remain in doubt, I neither thought nor stated that there was censorship. It was just not the right place, just not the right time.

I also reminded him that this officer in particular had a clean reputation; his own interview statements to Major Amin make his point of view clear. This is not the first time that his battle record has come up, and I have been very clear that he was a credit to a professional army, and stood apart from those whom he calls very harsh names.

A post on this honourable man was not the best place to revive distressing memories.

Sometimes I wish that Malik's plan of assassinating Zia in 1980 had actually worked, we would have been saved next 8 years of his disastrous reign.

Straightforward men never do well. It is the crooks and the manipulators who get ahead. Think of an earlier example, also, by coincidence, a Malik - Akhtar Hussain Malik. He was safely sent away as Ambassador to Turkey, and died in a car crash.
