SAHARA FOREST PROJECT1 - YouTube

Arab and African countries should convene together and help re-forest the Sahara desert, this will benefit their economies in the long-term. Cooler climate, more water, rivers, natural foods, and all the benefits of greenery. The Sahara Forest Project is already testing in Qatar to see if they can forest part of the desert and so far they have proven successful using green houses.

. . . .
Sahara is a desert because of tangible geographic factors

1. It is a region of descending air in hadley cell circulation system. The descending air undergoes adiabatic compression raising it's temperature and increasing its ablation potential.

This is the reason that this whole latitudinal belt starting from Mexico and USA (sonoran, chihuahuan) , Sahara , Rub-al-Khali , Dust-e-lut and dast-e-kavir and Thar in northen and Assorted Australian deserts (victoria, sand, etc.) in southern hemisphere are hot deserts. The mountainous topography of south Iran though is responsible for aggravating their desert problem.

2. The western edge of Sahara is straddled by canary cold current. The consequences of this is that the when wind pattern change due to shifting of ICTZ, the wind that flows into sahara is devoid of moisture as cold water evaporates less than hot. This is the reason that a lot of desert Atacama (peruvian current), Kalahari (Bengula), Mojave (californian) are situated abreast with cold current.

3. Trade winds are offshore even in case of saharan desert.

Thus it is stupid and unadvisable to try to plant vegetation in these deserts and would show lack of foresight on part of the person who would finance it.

Treated Effluent Water (TEW) is highly rich in nutrients and after releatively simple processing can be used for irrigation in dessert for non edible crops such as maize and jalopthra for fuel or timber for wood.
