Dwindling water and food supply will create impending doom for Pakistan, without immediate and drastic action the current dire situation will intensify.

Pakistan has the resources and technical know-how of nuclear technology which should be applied to the crucial necessity of the region.

Solution: Nuclear desalination water pipeline from the coast of Baluchistan to Punjab.

Reverse Osmosis desalinization plants are already operating in Australia with the combined capacity 1960 Megalitres per day.

Fusion of three or four process; reverse osmosis, nuclear, nantube and ionizing technology, to produce a mega hybrid project, which will quench the thirst of farming lands and Reclamation of vast deserts.

Pakistan population density pic. There is a pattern in this map, where ever the major rivers are located encompass the greatest amount of population

The surrounding regions of Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi, Sutel, and Indus will be provided with much needed alleviation from population density.

For all the nay Sayers, it is possible and many countries have already implemented a similar technology; Japan, Australia, Isreal (nuclear powered )

However, the majority of current and planned cogeneration desalination plants use either fossil fuels or nuclear power as their source of energy. Most plants are located in the Middle East or North Africa, due to their petroleum resources and subsidies. The advantage of dual-purpose facilities is that they can be more efficient in energy consumption, thus making desalination a more viable option for drinking water in areas of scarce water resources. [8][9]
n a December 26, 2007 opinion column in the The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Nolan Hertel, a professor of nuclear and radiological engineering at Georgia Tech, wrote, "... nuclear reactors can be used... to produce large amounts of potable water. The process is already in use in a number of places around the world, from India to Japan and Russia. Eight nuclear reactors coupled to desalination plants are operating in Japan alone........ Nuclear desalination plants could be a source of large amounts of potable water transported by pipelines hundreds of miles inland..."[10]
Additionally, the current trend in dual-purpose facilities is hybrid configurations, in which the permeate from an RO desalination component is mixed with distillate from thermal desalination. Basically, two or more desalination processes are combined along with power production. Such facilities have already been implemented in Saudi Arabia at Jeddah and Yambu-Medina.[11]

A typical aircraft carrier in the U.S. military uses nuclear power to desalinate 400,000 gallons (US Gal.) or 1514 m³ of water per day. [12]

Economics
A number of factors determine the capital and operating costs for desalination: capacity and type of facility, location, feed water, labor, energy, financing and concentrate disposal. Desalination stills now control pressure, temperature and brine concentrations to optimize the water extraction efficiency. Nuclear-powered desalination might be economical on a large scale.

Steps are being taken in the right direction, Kanupp plant

But we need a project on a massive scale, which will irrigate farming communities and reclaim desert lands.

Please reply with a feasibility report or even feedback if you'd support the idea...

We need to discuss and float ideas, in ways we can improve Pakistan, everything starts from an idea and eventually it become reality.

Any feed back positive or negative would be greatly be appreciated ?

I agree that there should be emphasis on inducting new technology.
as far as nuclear option is concerned, there is one major issue and that
is Pakistan's fault lines.
All of Pakistan is prone to earthquakes which is a major problem !
to counter that in design, we need to spend too much on the reactor facility !

so a sad problem.

maybe, along the lines we need to launch massive plantation projects as well, and declare the northern areas i.e any thing northern than Islamabad.

The problem with the nuclear tech is where to dispose off its toxic wate which is very harmfull.

Safety and cost concerns answered.

If it becomes a political issue, get the IAEA involved most of the waste would be shipped off to another country, otherwise it would be much more prudent to keep the prized commodity (khazaana), as I explain below.

If we were to build a network of nuclear power plants then fuel supply and waste would have many application, such as nuclear reprocessing, Mixed Oxide Fuel. The largest nuclear plant in the world uses MOX fuel. Production of medical isotopes similar to the Canadian chalk River station, which would earn much needed cash. Breeder plants would secure and develop our low raw grade minerals, fuels which we lack. Lets not forget the fodder for our bomb making crew and countless military application...titanium, depleted uranium shells and etc.

I personally believe safety is used to overblow cost. The best way to avoid this problem is by buying the project rather than contracting. If you can build it we will buy it for x amount of money. Initiate the program by engaging private and public sector under the bases of profit sharing similar to what was done with khan lab vs. PAEC.

Fallout concerns can be addressed by evacuating the surrounding radius of two hundred kilometres

If we were to invest 1 dollar we would regain 10 dollars; by the growth of arable land, new development of cities, reduction of density along major rivers. As well have better management of newer communities, probably similar to D.H.A. Growth of business in real estate, export of goods and agriculture. Export of nuclear material $$$ (MOX type). As earlier mentioned export of medical isotopes and creation of medical advance equipment industry would generate jobs and forex reserve. As well as add context mentioned above ($$$). Bullet proof security of water and food supply due to two lines of supply from east and south. The primary significance of locating cities farther west from the border; war is inevitable best way to win is preparation.

Funding can be obtained by taking over the Reko Diq mine, and forming a regional international organization (U.S.A haters), adopt forex reserves or other exchange scheme in gold, sell them the gold vollaaah, we have our funding. Of course this will require a lot in the art of deceit and cunningness fortunately our country possesses vast sums of this resource....

So what do you guys think, should I submit a proposal to Zardari ?:yahoo: this time around he will a attach a nuclear bomb and flirtatious ransom note to the aunty bank teller. I doubt it though since he's Mister big shot nowadays and it would be below him to work the small time petty circuit  the real money is in the Presidency of an entire country :pakistan:
