Integrate, yes. Assimilate, no. These countries people go to are known as democratic republics where there is supposedly freedom of speech and expression, but this actions prove otherwise. Islam has been around for over 1400 years, has it only taken 9/11 for the world to fear Muslims and Islam? And extremism isn't just the result of Sunnism or Wahabism, it's also the result of invasion of Muslim countries by non Muslims.
