The Prevalent scarcity of water in Balochistan due scanty water resources and marginal rains is affecting the common man to such a level that the situation needs to be addressed.

Being aware of the situation, Pakistan Navy utilizing its resources promptly dispatched its Fleet Tanker PNS NASR to Gwadar with 1200 tons of fresh/drinking water. The Ship reached yesterday at Gwadar port and distribution of water to area residents has been made in coordination with local District Administration. The fresh water supply by Pakistan Navy is paying the dividends and the situation in Gwadar City has improved. Commander West Navy, Commodore Ovais Hyder Zaidi is presently supervising the said relief efforts on behalf of Pakistan Navy.

It may be mentioned that Pakistan Navy, having its operational bases and adequate presence at coastal belt, is actively pursuing various development projects especially at Gwadar and Ormara. Pakistan Navy would continue to provide all out assistance through its relief and rehabilitation support, whether it be an earthquake, flood or any natural calamity to ease out miseries of populace.

. .
Long term solution required .. orobably this is way too expensive

.
Long term solution would be expensive one but what I have a idea in my mind I don't know How applicable that is but is it possible that Pakistan makes massive man made Canals almost size of river from famous rivers in KPK towards Baluchistan down to Gwadar and make storage facilities in Baluchistan I mean dams in Baluchistan to keep the water ????

This is a short term solution for sure. Had to address the problem on war footings with people being parched. It was an emergency response and that was the best things that could have been done. The long term solution will take 5-6 years (in form of a dam) and will have to come from the government, NOT MILITARY.

P.S. I hope the navy distributing water in Baluchistan is not considered a threat to democracy by some.

1200 Tons equals 1,200,000 liters. These are emergency measures only.

The shortest long term solution will be building a water channel from Akara Dam to Gwadar City to supply potable water.

The distance from the Dam to the city will depend on the shortest route taken approx 20 kms.

what are your views on desalination plants ruining on solar energy.it might be an expensive solution but i will permanently solve the water problem.

VERY expensive, may be not even practical but IF BY SOME MIRACLE that feat is achieved, this will change the fate of Baluchistan and thus this country. Irrigation and agriculture alone can bring a revolution for the whole country.

For now it will, however as the population grows it will become more and more expensive to meet the requirement of whole population this way. So yes, it will be of huge help indeed but not a long term permanent solution i think.

This is the project because of which this idea came to mind and if China can spend 100 billion dollars on CPEC projects than this is even more important for Gawader and Baluchistan to develop and truly benefit from CPEC.

Its possible, we have example of Ghazi Barotha project. For the same project a canal from the down stream of Tarbela dam KPK made which is 100 meter wide 9 meter deep and with the length of 52 KM. Power house contructed in Ghazi Barotha which is in Punjab.

But you are referring to a very long distance canal, which will require a huge financial investment.

How about large scale concurrent local implementation of a several water generation options:
Desalination plant(s). Desalination is a process that removes dissolved minerals (including but not limited to salt) from seawater, brackish water, or treated wastewater. Seawater is available plentyful. A number of technologies have been developed for desalination, including forward osmosis (FO), reverse osmosis (RO), distillation, electrodialysis, and vacuum freezing.

http://delftoutlook.tudelft.nl/article/making-drinking-water/
For osmosis new carbon-based filters are becoming available:
http://www.cnbc.com http://www.bbc.com/news/science-env...-into-drinking-water-could-help-millions.html
Atmospheric water generators, industrial size but also household (watercooler) size. This could be usefull esp. in humid months (June through September).
http://money.cnn.com/2017/04/19/technology/future/solar-powered-device-drinking-water/
https://www.automationworld.com/making-drinking-water-air
Rainwater collection and storage esp. in winter months (December, January and February). Here too, both industrial size and househols size solutions to be adopted. This may require seperate parallel sewage systems for excess affluant and actual sewage (helps make reclamation cheaper too: why first mix then seperate again)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Climate_of_Gwadar
Wastewater Reclamation. If water is scarce, then reclaiming wastewater is crucial, whether for drinking (A-quality) or for other purposes (B- or C-quality) e.g. irrigating.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK230186/
http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2012/01/120131-reclaimed-wastewater-for-drinking/
Differentiated water use / piping systems: Not all water has to be drinkingwater quality e.g. water used to flush toilet: why not use seawater for that, or reclaimed but still non-potable water (B- or C- quality)?
Water conservation measures: reducing household or even industrial water usage by installation of e.g. special taps, smart irrigation etc.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_conservation

Reduce demand, increase supply and promote efficient (re)use.

To the extent the above are dependent on energy to generate (potable) water, and given Gwadar's location and climate, consider using tidal, wind- and solar-power. Seawater, sun and wind are free and lasting.

Thank you Pak Navy..... My request to you guys , "please build 4 to 5 small dams for water supply to main cities in Baluchistan. We need more dams ,, Its do or die for all of us , I am telling you all , now even tube-wells are not working properly because of low level of ground water. We need Kalabagh and Bhasha Dams on war footing and Kachi Canal with few smaller dams in KPK and Baluchistan. Even our Capital need more water and one new fresh dam and guess what? Bharia Town and DHA have one sector on dam site.(the dam name and site was in news , please search )

Saudi Arabia: 27 [desalination planst] have now been constructed in the Kingdom, supplying 70% of the country’s drinking water as well as more than 28 million megawatts of electricity. The [world's largest] plant [ in SA], which cost 16 billion Saudi Ryals (US$ 3.8 billion) is expected to create 800,000 cubic meters of water ... , as well as generate 2,750 megawatts of electricity. Like other countries on the Arabian Peninsula, including many of the Emirate states, desalination has proven to be the most effective way of solving the country’s water needs.

Granted, they are stting on a lot of oil, which allows them not only to fund such projects but also to operate such plants at relatively low fuel cost.

Pakistan grants approval for SWRO plant in Gwadar

Pakistan has approved plans for a five million gallons a day (189,000 m3/d) seawater reverse osmosis plant in Gwadar, a port city in the southwest, reports Express Tribune.

Pakistan's Central Development Working Party cleared the way for project, having earlier asked a committee led by Planning Commission of Pakistan member, Malik Ahmad Khan, to examine feasibility.

The project's estimated cost of PKR 5,071 million ($48.4 million) is expected to be 90 per cent met by China, since Gwadar is a key location on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.

The five million plant will supply about a third of water demand in Gwadar, particularly meeting the needs of the city's industrial zone. The city also takes water from Ankara Kaur Dam, and from a desalination plant in Balochistan.

The plant is likely to be sold to a private investor on a turnkey basis.

The announcement was part of a package of seven projects approved by CDWP worth a total of PKR 36 billion ($343 million), including five health sector projects, and an energy project.

Any idea if work already started on this plant?

Problem is water, Balochistan don't have much water for dams. Especially for Gwadar. Only solution is expensive seawater reverse osmosis plant.
