Flash! Textron Begins CBU-105 Weapon Deliveries To India

Plz dont forget in IRAQ it was used on battalion of tanks which had no air support & SAM defences ,also IRAQI's T72 had some serious armour flaws in it's upper turret. So it was smooth kill

Exactly and that's what I pointed out as well. I am not a fan of cluster bombs in general, but it is clear that it will increase IAFs capabilities, although it is a weapon only for special strike roles and won't be a prime weapon for IAF.

That's correct the WMCD max range under ideal conditions is 20 kilometers. The extended range kit on the other hand increase the range of the munition (CBU-115) to 65 km same as the AASM.

First of all, that's not what you said earlier:

The WCMD is a add on kit to the CBU-105 that allows the pilot to safely engage the target from a stand-off range of between 20 Km-65 km

Secondly, IAF is not getting the range extended versions so far (just like they don't get SLAM-ER, JDAM-ER, or JASSM, but the normal Harpoon, the normal JDAM and only JSOW) and can use these bombs only with higher risk for the fighter/pilots, or just in later stages of the war, as be both agree.

.
I think this bombs would not be that affective against mordern tanks with their Armour capabilities. But this might work for light infantry vehicles.

top armour is weak on most tanks. it takes out t-72s, which means, it probably does to same against al-khalid, al-zarrar, and the chinese vintage stuff on the western border......idk about t-80, but i suppose it might not fare too badly

Yes! May be multiple attack could work. :guns:

.
wont be needed i guess. each units has 40 bomblets..each capable of destroying a tank or vehicle...
a standard jag sortie for an anti armour mission will carry 3 cbu-105s, two drop tanks, and 2 matra magicII on the over wing pylons, and will probably need fighter escorts....this is the immediate capability we'll have with these bombs.

Soon the integration will begin on the su-30mki, and of course, post 2015, on the rafale.

.
India use "beluga bombs" from the Mirage 2ks which are of similiar nature.

Just to show you how wide off the mark you are with your assessment. The Wild Weasel code for the HARM missile is 'SNIPER', for the Maverick it is 'RIFLE' and the CBU -103/105/115 cluster munition is 'SHOT GUN'.

Wild Weasel veterans favor the SHOT GUN ie cluster munitions. It is the most effective means of dealing with SAM threats this assessment is based on real world experience of the best SAM killers in the business.

And why? Because it takes out the radar and the missiles if both are in relative close distance, while using anti radiation missiles (as done in the Kosovo war for example), was not very effective, because they only take out 1 radar, while the missiles are still active and can be used with other radars again.
One reason why the French prefer to take out the entire system as well, instead of using anti radar weapons, or why even the US forces now use JSOW more often for SEAD, to stay in safe distance and this against way less capable opponents that we face.

Principally the 'time to pickle' for cluster munitions such as CBU-103/105/115 is much shorter than the AASM, Maverick and HARM.
For cluster munitions the pilot simply marks a point on the ground in ballpark proximity to the target (around 300 meters). Next, the pilot sets detonation altitude and releases the CBU canister. Just like a shot gun, the reaction time for cluster munitions is short and the damage area is wide. This represents the best change of causing the greatest damage to missiles, people, radar, fuel and support vehicles at the SAM site. JSOW are also wide area impact weapons, as a matter of fact the munitions inside the JSOW are the same as the onces inside the CBU canister.

If we can have 3000 of these weapons that would be nightmare of our enemy neighbors .

And still, it is not about the weapon itself, but about risking a fighter just to use it. With air superiority and limited capable opponents, these weapons will be effective, but we simply are not as lucky as the US to have such easy opponents. :)
