+ I dont know why Russia feels threaten by west. I mean, what kind of benefits does Russia has in Syria? Oil? I dont think so. The west would never try to invade Russia. So far i know does Russia nothing has (sources or other minerals). So Rusisa just must back off and dont bring their relations with Turkey iin to danger by a guy that slaughter his own people.

Putin is a little apprehensive of West's intentions. He wants to take Russia back to its SU days and can't tolerate the fact that the US led west will dictate terms to the world . Medvedev however, was a little friendly towards the west , that is why the Libyan campaign of NATO could happen .

Not because they love them or they are more valuable to them. They need to distract west's attention to recreate their union out of Russia. (Nowadays they call it "Eurasian Union") So, they are absolutely determined to play every card including Iran and Syria to the final. If they fail to create their union, they will disintegrate eventually as Putin said.

There has never been a plan to sell S-300 to Syria, but suddenly such a story comes up.

I think by this the Russians want to send a warning to NATO:

If you continue with your Syria-policy, then Russia may consider to give Syria the S-300.
