QUETTA: Unknown assailants killed five people belonging to the Hazara community in Quetta's Bacha Khan Chowk area on Sunday evening, Dawn.com reported.

Police sources said suspected militants opened fire at two shops near Bacha Khan Chowk, the city's commercial hub.

Police stated the deceased belonged to the Hazara community. Four people had died on the spot while there was one injured who was rushed to Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Quetta for medical treatment. However, he later succumbed to his injuries.

Police said the assailants managed to escape from the scene. It was an act of targeted killing, police sources told Dawn.com.

Soon after the incident, markets and business establishments were closed and panic gripped the area. Traffic vanished from the roads.

In the past few days, more than half-a-dozen Hazara community were also gunned down in Quetta.

Police and personnel of Frontier Corps (FC) were called to the area to bring the situation under control. Balochistan Chief Minister Dr. Malik Baloch strongly condemned the incident and directed the police to bring the perpetrators to justice.

“Strict action will be taken against the elements involved in the target killing,” he said.

The chief minister expressed sympathy with the bereaved families and promised all possible help to them.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility following the attack.

Later, around 500 people from the community took to the streets in protest against the incident carrying the coffins of the deceased and refusing to bury them.

About 500 protesters placed the coffins of the victims on the road and chanted slogans against the government for failing to protect them.

“We are facing a genocide and the government makes only empty promises instead of providing protection,” Husnain Ali, a protester in his early 20s, told AFP.

He said he would sit on the road with the dead bodies until the perpetrators are arrested.

Balochistan has been experiencing incident violence and targeted killings since more than a decade. The largest province of the country by area, is home to a low-level insurgency by ethnic Baloch separatists. Al Qaeda-linked militants also operate in the region.

The province shares borders with Afghanistan and Iran.

It is time for Shias to publicly beat and kick someone from the ruling party. Only then PML(N) would give them more importance than metro bus project.

No RAW, CIA or Mossad for this time.... that is quite surprising.

problem is the attitude of lawyers and the judiciary.
they ambushed at military court verdicts after enough time had passed from the 26 Dec tragedy.
when there were back to back hangings the terrorists in the prisons had started weeping and praying for forgiveness sadly for Asma Jhangir the tragedy is only if the accused is Pakistan army and if it is anyone else then she doesnt care this is why despite having the title of humanitarian worker she didnt say a single word of support for hazara or victims of Peshawar.
her condemnation and humanitarian work is very narrow and selective and she together with Ch Ifitikhar believes in vindictive behaviour against the military

this is exactly what our "Muslim brothers" from middle east are waiting and hoping for. to turn Pakistan into a civil war zone
like Iraq and Syria

We were happy that after moratorium on death penalty was removed after APS, terrorists from TTP, LEJ, Jundullah would be killed. Now the ganja govt instead of hanging terrorists from TTP, LEJ etc is hanging people who killed someone on a cricket match or for neighborhood brawl.

And till now that wig wala interior minister who took notice of NYT report on Pakistani company has taken no notice on this death of 5 Pakistanis.

Sectarian violence needs both political leadership and police acting in tandem, senseless killings are unfortunate and sad and can never be justified

.
May be because we are not delusional like you guys.

Militancy in Kashmir. Pakistan is behind it. Militancy in Manipur. China is supporting it.

Pigeon flying across the border. Pakistan is spying us. Planet in the sky. Chinese drone spying us. These guys are a joke. :cuckoo:

.
PML (N) should be really kicked hard for supporting hardliner terrorists who had some sort of association with LeJ, like Rana Sanaullah with Mailk Ishaq and co.

Pathetic these people, how could someone kill someone peaceful like Hazara people only based on their religious sectarian beliefs? Is beyond me.

.
RIP!
We will find you KILLERS,
And you will probably die by scaring to death when we do.

DAMN!:(

Tau kya pakistani aur army beth kay yeh sab chup karkay dekhain gay?? It has to end someday. How many more lives. No one wants it to go on as an unending cycle whether its for hazzaras ,shias or sunnis. Is it just cuz these ppl are civilians?
Nawaz never in million years will do anything.

Shias should beat up asma jahangir. I knew she will create trouble but ihad thought this time army wont let it work. If we ever look at extremists and our liberals and track their roots somewhere they always seem to connect.

That women's world is said to be too murky. There are gajilions of human rights violations against women but she doesnt let out a whimper on that but where its against pakistanis interest she....leads the pack.

Has Aps martyrs blood gone wasted?

Their intel is doing activities in jammu so right now they are quiet.

This has become all kind of violence, from political to sectarian to religious. You actually don't need valid reasons to kill anybody there now. The only valid reason is money/revenge.

Due to terror strike those who have been victims their family seeks revenge and today or the other day some one from family takes up arms ( this cannot be too prevailing) but terror groups will utilize this also.
