First Mistral-Class Ship Built for Russia Sets Off for Sea Trials: Reports | Russia | RIA Novosti

MOSCOW, September 13 (RIA Novosti) - The Mistral- class helicopter carrier, the Vladivostok, carrying some 200 Russian sailors on Saturday left the French port of Saint-Nazaire to pass a series of tests.
The Vladivostok had left docks at 3:30 a.m. local time (1:30 GMT), but was forced to wait until the tide thus eventually sailing out to sea at 7:20 a.m. (5:20 GMT) accompanied by two tugboats, Agence France-Presse reported.
This is the first time the ship goes to sea since its arrival to Saint-Nazaire in June where two crews of Russian sailors, a total of 400 crew members, have been awaiting sea trials.

. . . . . .
We too should look at the Minstral Class
INS Jalashwa and INS Magar only have 8 yrs or service life left in them and we need to order replacement by 2016, if we hope to have a replacement ready in time for their retirement
These ships can come in handy incase of another Tsunami in the Indian Ocean
Not to mention the fact that they can serve as a command ship and Heli carriers as well as Anti Submarine Warfare platform
they are relatively cheap too
We can get 4 of them for 3 Billion USD as against spending 4 Billion USD on 3 San antonio class LPD

Juan Carlos class - Spain

Though,
there is also a chance that India could pick up
British Royal Navy's HMS Ocean for Cheap in 2022, once it goes out of British service
UK plans to retire HMS Ocean, once the two new Queen Elizabeth class carriers enter service
Considering the fact that the ship is just 16 yrs old at present and has just undergone MLU.
IT will still have 20 yrs of service life left in it, when it goes out of British service
Considering the fact that we plan to keep Viraat, a 1959 spec Light carrier in service for 30 yrs, after the British used it for 27 yrs, we can very well scrape out 25 more years out of the Ocean

You have to respect the Russians. France tells NATO the deal's off and a week later the Russkies take their new toy out on a joy-ride.

All the French care about is money.

They are even more desperate now as their economy is in recession again.
