What's new

First Mig-29k launched from SBTF

I read somewhere that naval version will be used only for training.

Like the air force version, the naval version will have a trainer as well as a one pilot combat version. It will be used for regular operational duties, not just for training. Nobody uses a relatively expensive 4 gen fighter only for training. That's what hawks are for.

True .... right now the naval version is a twin seater MK1 .

The combat version will be single seater and will be based on Tejas MK2 .

Russian pilot?

So Indians are yet to fly their Mig-29Ks off SBTF?

When will Indians be able to take off and land on their beloved CV?

Perhaps in 5 years?:D
The MiG-29K/KUBs are still under warranty from RAC-MIG so naturally they will want to, for liability purposes, have their pilot test this sort of thing out first. Also, to date no IN pilot has flown off the Viky- it has been RAC-MIG test pilots only so they are used to STOBAR ops, IN pilots have only done this on sim right now. Naturally the IN will get to work straight away.
