First Look: This is Pakistan’s Biggest Maritime Patrol Vessel

I was at Huangpu Ship yard in 1997 and it was rubbish. My ship was being repaired there after we hit a Hurricane and suffered significant damages.
The shipyard was Huang-Poo in reality. Their working practices were abyssal and standard down in the gutter.
I barely missed a 20 Ton steel plate which fell 14 meters down from a welding operation i was supervising and Chinese welders did not follow correct procedures. I fell down while welders were still working on it,and luckily no welder came down with it and the rest of us looking from down did not torn into tomatoe ketchup due to being crushed under a falling 20 tonner Topside tank bottom.

The same was the story everywhere. They had no planning, no direction, no safety procedures in place and worked like crazy.
While a welder was welding a Metal frame on the inside of the ship. A painter was painting the exact same spot on the outside of the ship, oblivious to the burning paint which he had just applied. Then Language problems. They spoke Chinese , we spoke English and the designated translator was always difficult to find as he was always skiving somewhere.
I can write a 10 page essay on Huang-Poo and their Shittty work i saw.

I hope that in the last 20 years when i was there, the shipyard has improved it's working practices. But if it's the same working culture is saw then i don't have much hopes for this vessel Pakistan is buying from them.

Pakistan Maritime Security Agency’s (PMSA) is expected to get six Maritime Patrol Vessels (MPVs) – two large 1,500 ton and four medium sized 600-ton – from China. Today, first photos of Pakistan Maritime’s largest patrol vehicle have emerged on the internet.

Pictures of a 1,500 ton MPV docked at Huangpu Shipyard have been shared at the Chinese website cjdby.

One of the two 1,500 ton MPVs is being developed by the Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works (KSEW). Its keel was set by the KSEW in January 2017.

MPV Specs & Usage
The 1,500 ton MPV has a length of 95 metres and is powered by two engines, enabling it to travel at a high top speed of 26 knots.

This will be the first 1,500 ton patrol vessel in Pakistan’s history. The large sized vessel is said to have a flight deck as well, capable of accommodating light or medium utility helicopters.

1500 ton MPVs will operate independently or as part of a composite force in coastal and deep sea regions.

Both 600 ton and 1,500 ton MPVs will be used for different roles including Maritime Security Operations, patrolling, surveillance of EEZ (exclusive economic zone), intelligence gathering, policing operations against asymmetric threats, pollution control and disaster relief.

Current Fleet
Until now, the PMSA has received three out of the four 600 ton MPVs – namely the PMSS Hingol, PMSS Basol and PMSS Darya-e-Dasht. In January, the former two have been deployed in Gwadar.

KSEW has been working on the fourth Hingool-class MPV since May 2016, which is said to be 68 metres in length and will sport a top speed of 27 knots.

Other than these MPVs, PMSA’s offshore patrol fleet consists of four Barkat-class Offshore Patrol Vehicles (OPVs). These were built between 1988-1990 and have a maximum displacement of 397 tons with a travel range of up to 1,500 nautical miles at 12 knots. The Barkat class OPVs are supported by nine 14 ton Fast Response Boats, which were acquired from the US.

Back in 2014, USA approved the sale of eight 43-metre Global Response Cutters (GRC43M) with weapons, subsystems and maintenance support for the PMSA for $350 million. These had a displacement of 237.5 tons with a top speed of 32.4 knots at full load while covering a range of 3,000 nautical miles at 14 knots.

However, Pakistan did not go through with the contract hinting that the Hingol-class MPVs were acquired as a substitute to the US GRCs.

Looks nice and big.

You're right.

20 years ago in China is indeed the case, not only in the shipyard, there are many construction sites are like this.

However, China's rapid development in the field of shipbuilding, with China in the ship design, material technology, workers and other aspects of the continuous improvement of qualifications,

Especially in the past 10 years, the new shipbuilding in the construction level and the quality of finished products compared to 20 years ago there are qualitative changes.

It is quite different:-)

20 years ago, who will think we can be independent (from design to material to equipment to the construction to the operation) build aircraft carrier, who would have thought more than a month ago, China's first domestic aircraft carrier held a launching ceremony.

And we are in their own progress at the same time, but also willing to share technology with the brothers to help them improve their country's technical level, not simply buy and sell the relationship,

Like China's development achievements, who can say that the future of Pakistan can not rely on their own to build a 10000 tons of ships or even domestic aircraft carrier?

In any case, even neighboring India can be their own aircraft carrier (we will not mention it in the end has been held several times the launching ceremony).:p:

Indians can do, the Pakistani people have no reason not to do or do not they are good, not to mention the Pakistani people as long as willing to work hard, and the Chinese brothers are willing to provide all kinds of help on the edge.

Following the agreement two years ago, China will not only help Pakistan to build shipbuilding, but also help to improve the technical requirements of the hardware and related personnel of the entire shipbuilding industry, at least to train not less than thousands of Pakistani private technical staff (not to mention Those in the field of expertise, especially in the field of military personne).

So I believe that the progress of various fields will be visible at the speed of the naked eye in front of us.:smitten:

The article mentions that after the delivery of the first vessel, the second vessel will be built in Pakistan.

then Pakistan will at least master the construction of 1500 tons of warships related technology.:-)

I have a Question brother, the 600T looks a bit stealthy then the 1500T. Whats your thought on this?

I think both classes or just 1500 ton (most probably ) suppose to have capability to add missile system when needed but not sure where the launcher would sit perhaps in the front between deck and 30 mm gun like harpoon launchers do not see any other area with room ??

Class name is not the same as ship name AZmat class missile boat is class name and individual fac has then ship names

F22p is sword class while ships has individual names

Not entirely true, usually, the class name comes from the first SHip in the class. F-22P is called Zulfiquar class, but Colloquially called "Sword" because the ships are named for swords.
