It's still a derivative of the Tejas. The core idea behind MWF, TEDBF & ORCA is they don't wanna spend a ton of money on developing an entirely new 4th gen platform when most countries would move to 5th gen in the next few decades. It is drastically different from Tejas, a different weight class, different lengths, and potential capabilities. It will be unfair to call it Tejas.
Due to the dwindling squadron numbers, we should still induct jets and instead of going for additional Rafales or F-16s which might take a good decade for the negotiations, sign the deals, face opposition backlash...it's rather better to develop an indigenous platform which would also help us gain further experience. MWF is a slightly larger single engine version of the Tejas with enhanced range & capabilities destined to be on par with F-16 or Gripen while TEDBF is for the IN which didn't want single engine fighters on their carriers. While development works on MWF & TEDBF have been officially confirmed and started, ORCA came into picture since HAL wanted to develop an airforce version of TEDBF instead of going for a foreign jet but there are no official reports for the ORCA yet except few pictures tweeted by HAL
N-LCA testing is being done since TEDBF is a dual-engine derivative of the N-LCA but with larger airframe, enhanced range & capabilities.@KapitaanAli @Surya 1 @Juggernaut_is_here @Zapper
Dear Friends,
Naval LCA was REJECTED by navy... still they are testing it on INS Vikramaditya... Systems/sub-systems are UNDER TESTING so that the future jet can be materialized quickly...
people here can laugh and make fun of Tejas but we Indians know the reality... it is a founding stone for future jets...
I'm only worried about Scamgress... they are the only one who can derail the defense manufacturing dreams of INDIA...
