Firms Show Interest in Mass Train System

6% wont come if you don't invest in such projects. Remember the more you build and the more you consume the more you grow. So spend more the grow more. Basic laws of economics.

Involved discussion of economics would derail this thread. My view is about distribution of development resources, not the amount of money being spent.

It is OK to talk and plan. But the money to be spent on this project must come from growth that comes from improvement of power generation and pro-growth policies (government expenditure containment, privatization, more deregulation, etc...).

What are they talking about?Underground system has become out dated?Oh come on man...

So Lahore metro wont be grade seperated? If then it wont be considered a mass rapid system
What are they planning?A suburban rail or an an LRT(That can work on BRT tracks)something like this?

It would be much cheaper than a MRTS,but wouldnt carry much commuters. Also,it would be s problem at at grade crossings

This talk of subways becoming outdated is rubbish. Usually, MRTS connects between one or several subway stations. It is built on roads where there is spaces for dedicated corridors.

Just last week, another excavation for another subway line has been started here in Toronto with most modern tunnel boring machine, custom built for this city's type of earth.

So saying subway has become outdated is a very stupid and deceptive statement. I agree, its very expensive to excavate. But after LRTS, if implemented, they will still be thinking of a subway system after 10 to 15 years. As subways can carry the maximum number of commuters that bus or LRTS cant.

I do think the government should start work immediately with the underground metro, the traffic in Lahore was unbearable the last time I went there, Karachi also needs underground metro but the law and order situation there needs to be tackled first.

please dont make any system which doesnt comply with the latest metro concept in the world

its really useless otherwise

people will know in time that yeah b JOSH E KITABAT mei bool daya tha ..he didnt give a single dime for bullet train

Most cities treat light rail and metros differently. As such the relevance and need for underground metros is no less today than it has ever been. The only issue is the cost of underground metro systems- can cost 2-3++ times per km compared to an elevated stretch. look at India-pretty much every metro under construction has under ground stretches because sometimes you simply have no choice but to go for that.

Addtionally wrt India you will see more underground line cinstruction in Indian metros now as this techniques has been mastered and the costs brought down manifold as now TBMs are built IN INDIA and the Indian operators have the expertise to operate them speedily. Some stretches of the Delhi Metro have been completed faster than any underground metro lines in history precisely for these reasons.

To say underground metros are out dated is far from accurate mate.

the traffic in lhr is a lot better than b4r

My biggest fear for subway system in cities like Karachi and Lahore is the law and order situation. Imagine if someone can snatch your mobile in broad daylight in front of crowd of people, what can the criminals do to you in a train running underground?!!

Also such a project will be a favorite target for terrorists.

Remember, any surface transit system will be a partial success without underground system. and subway system is not an outdated system. The one who said it must be fired.

You will see developed cities going now for light rail, a train on a simple road. Lots of cities in America are going ahead with these sort of new projects and the reason is due to the fact that its less costly and quicker to construct. Toronto is just wasting its tax payers money now. Last time i checked, the pace of construction is too slow. I have been closely watching 3 stations being built and i think it will take them lots of years, which will force the government to add billions after billions.

Pakistan should should work for proper Underground Metro systems. The demand is there in Karachi and Lahore, where population is seen to be above 10 million. Unlike those developed cities, our advantage is our labour. We have manpower and the work is cheap. Under grounding as to speak should be easier since our Soil in comparison with others is soft. The best part of all is that we are offered a big chunk of financial support from investors based in Japan and China.

Underground system is painfully slow and expensive, better to stay on the road or build elevated tracks.

its not good for our environment we already lost the natural beauty of lahore constructing lahore metro..yes it looks good but at cost of how many trees ?????
