KARACHI:
Police on Sunday lodged a first information report (FIR) against unknown persons who tried to dishonour the statue of Priest King at a site of Mohenjo Daro – one of the largest settlements of ancient Indus Valley Civilisation.
The case was registered by Airport Police Station in Mohenjo Daro on the complaint of the watchman of the archaeological site.
"The case has been registered under Section 295-A which deals with deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs," a duty officer at the police station said.
The case was registered following a photo that went viral on social media in which three visitors were spotted dishonouring the statue of Priest King, an iconic representation of Indus civilisation that is placed at the entrance of the site.

"We are tracing the people who are involved in this cheap act and have disgraced the statue. There was an outcry on social media including Twitter, Facebook and Instagram and people belonging to different walks of life condemned the act demanding action against the culprits.
"We live in a civilised society and it's insane to disgrace the icon of a civilisation we should be proud of it," journalist and activist Nisar Khokhar said, adding that strict action must be taken against people involved in it.
Soon after the incident, many people in Sindh replaced their profile pictures on Facebook and Twitter with Mohenjo Daro or Priest King’s photo for showing sympathy.
Joke of a government. Like we have resolved poverty, hunger, corruption and several dozen other issues that we are now persecuting people for showing harmless behavior of random people.

Yes, I would agree with you. PPP and the Bhutto's have my respect for that. They have always spoken out against religious obscurantism. I noticed PMLN having remained silent but read this -

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari on Wednesday lashed out at the government over its action as the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) activists staged violent protests across the country.
In a statement, Bilawal “strongly condemned” the deadly violence seen in many parts of the country this week after Saad Hussain Rizvi was taken into custody.
“Such kind of torture, abductions, occupation of state and private properties and attacks on police personnel by enraged mobs cannot be allowed,” the PPP leader said, according to a series of tweets by his party.
Demanding that action be taken against the people involved in the violence as per the law, Bilawal said the government could not be permitted to “avoid fulfilling its responsibility”.

In that sense PPP has so much to offer. In fact Bhutto senior was brought down by a nexus of America, Mullahs and Gen Zia.

ppp and MQM both from sindh were secular parties , later PMLN under nawaz sharif showed some sentiments for minorities .

No, it was wrong of the Taliban to destroy those statues.

Remember, Buddhism came as a reaction to Brahminical Hinduism.

But I just hope that even the current Buddhists simplify their lives by just remembering Buddha and not worshiping his statues. Would the Buddha have approved of Burmese militant and fanatical Buddhist priests creating situation for Burmese Muslims to leave Burma ?

oh living in kafirland of yahud o nasara UK
so you support mulla umar's action of breaking statue of buddhas in bamian ?
your education is complete .
The only value statues have is the one you give it. Whether you give it aesthetic value, religious value or historical value these have as much meaning and worth as the material mind gives it. We fight over them and even die over them but these are just figments of one's desire , discard them for a better future.

So breaking statues is significant to you but breaking nations and people isn't? Just shows how materialistic people have become, time to break more statues to show idol worshippers that these have no value?
