i have not been to Finland, not really came to my attention really. i have been traveling recently, i was in China last week.
looks like a nice place though. well thats another thing thats in the bucket list.
do they speak english there?
i wont mind rowing on the river, looks nice.

The Finns are among the best English speakers in Europe,so do not worry,if you do not speak Finnish,you'll have no problems to get help !

@silo I have actually been to Ireland ( where I lived for over year ), France and quite few other European countries but alas I have never been to any Nordic country but I do intend to visit one of these days. I love cold so the Nordic ice has especial appeal to me. That coming from a Britrish-Pakistani some people find bizzare but my family hail from snow zone mountains of Pakistan so perhaps that might explain this weird fascination with ice and snow..

I will probably try out Norway first but yes Finland is by it's position a extraordinary place. Also might as well see what is it about that country that produces "flying Finn" et al.

Even my kids idea of a having fun day in winter is running and mucking about in snow. We even have a lake which in winter sometimes freezes but no I have not tried the "cold bath" so far. Of course Finland looks lot more "cooler" then UK.

And those pictures in particular of the Northern Lights are surreal. A magical world almost.
