DRDO's Combat Improved T-72

Jinxed Bhim 155mm Gun Finally On Track?

Is India's jinxed BHIM 155mm/52cal tracked self-propelled howitzer back on track? Well, the DRDO has revealed in the latest edition of its Tech Focus journal that "the system has been successfully evaluated and accepted by the user". That's huge. The hybrid foreign gun mated with the indigenous Arjun chassis has had a tough run so far.

In 2005, after Denel's T6 turret was chosen to be the weapon mated to an Arjun chassis, the South African gun maker was blacklisted by the Indian government following allegations of using influence to swing a separate deal. In 2007, I visited the DRDO's tank lab in South India just after an effort to identify a new gun for the Bhim had ended in a single-vendor situation, with only the Samsung Techwin coming forward to bid with the K9 turret. So no go. Sort of lost track of the programme since until I saw the DRDO's journal today (full specs in the PDF).

DRDO describes the Bhim as "one of the finest 155mm/52cal self-propelled howitzers, which is endowed with superior firepower, high mobility and system availability characteristics (sic)."

I hope bhim is back on track. Will be a good option for us to solve the artilary problem.

any new about trial of army and how much time it will take to make production

I just hope they take the Denel G6-52 and T6-52 Bhim for our self-propelled wheeled and self-propelled tracked howitzer requirement.

Any high res photos?!The camo scheme of MBT Arjun looks dull, but the T-72 looks awesome.
When were these photos taken?

t 72 looks awsome!

We use one of the worst variant of the T-72, the T-72M which is a downgraded monkeymodel. In comparison to the modernisation programs other countries have this is nothing.

In my opinion they should upgrade the newer batch of T-72M's to T-72M1M or just replace them as fast as they can with T-90S and induct the new Object 188M T-90M, but that is just my opinion.

I think after denel was banned this project was abandoned although it was almost completed and even test were made. If denel would have won that competition, Bhim would have entered into the service. Now DRDO is going to start work on 2-3 artilleries (1 in almost all segment). Whatever drdo does i think they should do it quickly because IA has induct around 1500 of these and the production of such huge number will take almost a decade, a time which IA don't have thanx to the delay in this deal for more than a decade...
