The teachers have the option to opt out if they disagree with the training. It is optional. Just as optional as it is for people to carry guns in the US or any other country that allows guns. Why is everyone going batshit bashing the KP government here? KPK is already full of guns, what's the problem if teachers want to carry them to school?

It's not supposed to be a line of defense. As @Jazzbot has proven, no one is counting on the teachers to stop an attack. There are a lot of other measures being taken. The teachers just want to try. If they want to, they deserve to be allowed to. It is their right.

I have just one advice for the teachers, especially for the female teachers. Change your profession. In any country where the female teachers have to carry guns in schools to defend themselves against terrorist attacks, the future of that country is definitely doomed. Just carrying guns will make them the first target of terrorists. I wonder who are those parents who are sending their children to schools where teachers are carrying weapons. If the government cannot provide security then close down the schools.

What a load of pure bullshit. Millions of female teachers walk around in Pakistan without any problem. Change your profession my arse, you're talking as if only teachers are targets of violence. Any human could be a victim, anywhere in the world. What will your advice be now? Stop being human? Stop existing?

How will carrying guns make them the 'first target'? Those terrorists don't stop to check which teachers have guns and calculate or prioritize their shots. They shoot whoever they see. Teachers having guns won't change that. If anything, it'll slow the terrorists down.

If the government cannot provide security then close down the schools.

By that logic we should stop driving cars because the government can't stop car accidents. We should also stop eating food because the government can't prevent food poisoning.

Practically all the arguments against this are either bull or are not taking into account the full situation (e.g people saying that terrorists are too well armed to be stopped by teachers. These people are not taking into account the fact that dozens of other measures are being taken.)

How does it help? These morons are well trained, with better arms and most importantly ready to die........ What those poor teachers can do with their pistols? I see this as a symbolic action.....

It will make some difference if god forbid any attack happens again, as APS school teachers have shown great bravery by putting their lives on line for children if they had even small arms they could have martyred while killing few attacker and saving some lives.

PESHAWAR (Web Desk) – A month after terrorist attack on a military-run school in Peshawar, authorities have commenced special gun training sessions for female teachers in the city, Dunya News reported on Tuesday.

Initially, eight teachers of Frontier College were given firearms training at Peshawar Police Line. The basic training emphasised how teachers should use the gun, as well as taking cover, before trying to shoot.

The theory is that if attackers target a school, they will face an armed response rather than classrooms full of defenceless staff and children.

Some teachers have expressed confidence and said that weapons training will help them protect their students.

The decision to train teachers was announced by the Inspector General of Kyber Pakhtunkhwa after the provincial government permitted them to keep weapons at the educational institutes.

Security of schools has been beefed up after December 16 attack on Army Public School, that claimed lives of nearly 150 people, most of them children. Elevated boundary walls with steel wire fencing have also been put in place in schools across the country.
